Sl60

I have been all over the country inspecting cars for my customers.

Great stuff, sounds good. BlackC55....are you happy to travel to Coleford, Gloucester to the seller for me for this one and give me a detailed report? What would be your cost to do this for me? How many hours do you normally allow to do this kind of thing?

Also are you happy that you know enough about SL60's if they are much different to do so?

I am not at the stage to give you the go ahead just yet but will speak to the seller to see if this will be able to be arranged.

Thanks.

The current owner is the 4th and has had it for the last 6 years. Apparently Lennox/Dennis Lewis was the first owner followed by two owners from Peacocks clothing stores. I believe the Director of Peacocks bought it off Peacocks who owned it on the log book originally.

Ah yes, the Lennox Lewis claim - it all comes back to me now!

BTW cheapest one of these I recall seeing was a sky blue one on eBay (last summer think it was), it was in London and had a gearbox fault, sold for around £7k. Anyone recall that one, know what happened to it?

Do you know anything about this Lennox Lewis one at all then? Just been speaking to Nigel from the benzworld forum who has an SL60.

Seems weird that this one hasn't sold in a year or so of trying. Anyone seen it or know of any problems with it?

I wouldn't worry so much. The car hasn't been advertised endlessly over the last 12 months. Higher mileage SL60s are hard to shift unless presented perfectly. At the money you're willing to pay you can't complain even if it requires a few £k to get ship shape.

I think your spot on stats it seems cheap enough and straight enough to be worth a punt I guess. Shame I bought the SL500 only in December and starting spending on that one to get it into shape first!

You live and learn. Plenty more people have done the same thing - even after solid advice on here!

Agreed....on a side issue if I do look at this one what would it cost me to refurb my 4 replica 18" AMG split rims on my existing SL500? PM me if you prefer.

Will still need to get my SL500 up to scratch to achive the best price if it goes up for sale. Still got a few more jobs to do. Will be a nice cheap SL500 with everything done for the next owner!

I take it you would have been happy with it if you had bought it last year for £10k? Would you have kept it and not bought the 575?

It might be better to get an OEM set of wheels. R129 owners tend to be fussy and replica wheels aren't very popular. A decent refurb is also going to be close to the price of a secondhand set of wheels.

I wasn't in the market for a 575 at the time - you can't really compare the two anyway. I would have paid £10k for it a year ago knowing I needed to spend £2k to get it up to scratch. Do it if you plan on owning it for a few years - otherwise let it go.

Fair enough. What made you change from the SL60 to looking for the 575?

Did you think you needed to spend on the SL60 when you viewed it? I planned to keep my SL500 a few years so I certainly will be keeping an SL60 for a long while. Don't want to chop my 540i Sport Touring in for an MPV as I love it to bits but getting a bit of pressure from the missus. Seem to have fended her off for another couple of years though so I have a choice of V8's which is nice. Both very different beasts though.

You pleased with the 575?

Working hard and knowing if I didn't do it now I probably wouldn't get the chance!

Yes - it needs some bodywork and also a bit of TLC. That said I'm very fussy about my cars.

Owning a Ferrari isn't as great as I'd thought it'd be. The only car I've ever been obsessed with was a TVR.

At least you can be proud you worked hard enough to afford to have the choice/option to buy the 575. Enjoy it.

I used to be fussy about my cars and then wasn't so bothered as they became tools to do business andearn money. I am starting to get my fussiness back. Never lost the passion but it was on a back burner as wife, kids, mortgage etc. took priority.

I did a Supercar 5 track day at Heyford Park with my 2 brother in laws a few months back and they had a 360 to drive. It is much older and obviously not as good as your 575 but I was also very disappointed with it. It felt very heavy and the Lotus Elise and the 911 Carrera 2S was a much better track car on the day by far.

What don't you like about the 575?

Interesting you say that. I've always been super fussy about cars, and still am in all but one area - cleanliness. Until we had children the cars would always be immaculately presented, since then I have more valuable things to do with my time so I had to do two things:

1. Trust someone else to wash the car - only ever one valet though, nobody else, and certainly not the dealer

2. Let the car get dirty - in the winter especially I just let the dirt build up which took a while to get used to. :o

I'm still fussy about everything else though!! :D

I'm with Stats here. First thing I did on mine was replace the AMG replicas with real ones.

I think altogether I spent around £5K putting mine in order when I got it, but have not had to spend a lot since, just servicing and front springs.

Probably psychological, but i've always found that i drive more carefully and more gently when my cars are clean....when they're dirty i am a little more careless...which inevitably means some new damage/wheel kerb is discovered next time i wash the car :wallbash:
