SLK 55 AMG *advice*

Really what was he selling it for, this is going to make me cry no doubt!

So the wheels that are on this car are not that great?

Yes I cannot believe I missed such a detail, they are definitely Mandrus Regenmeisters, looks as though the difference in price is somewhere around £600 with the AMG's being the more expensive. I guess the original owner cashed in, though the dealer did tell me they were factory fitted.

Am I right in thinking MB would not have fitted these wheels, this is important from an insurance perspective if nothing else.

Anyone know much about Mandrus Regenmeisters, are they good wheels?, Ive just had RSJ refurb them, so they should look like new when I come to collect them, also this would suggest the owner either did have them on from new, or decided to only buy cheaper used alloys.

Feel a tad gutted at the moment, though if MB did not fit them, I have every reason to speak with RSJ about cancelling the entire deal?

Any thoughts...

To me and this is just my opinion, as I'm not a fan of non-OEM wheels, I would say the car is worth £1k less than if it had OEM wheels. It 'may' be harder to sell on afterwards too.

Yes, definitely not factory fitted, and considerably cheaper to buy than the original AMG's.

Mandrus are by no means a bad wheel though, several members have sets and are pleased with them.

I agree with the comments, I was interested in this car that's why I recall it on PistonHeads, but I didn't like the colour and the wheels (especially the wheels) so I'd agree with it putting potential buyers off.

Thanks all,

I have just come off the phone to RSJ, they are looking at it all now, & considering returning the chunky deposit I have put down. I just saw the advert on Pistonheads, the car was sold to me as a 1 owner, when in fact its had 2, plus the wheels I were told were factory fitted at an estimated cost of £3,000 which is what the seller told RSJ.

Anyway, if they return my funds, then I cant fault them for trying it on.

Any assistance in buying another SLK 55AMG would be appreciated.

James.

nice car, but it was a LOT cheaper on Pistonheads when the owner was selling it directly and I don't like the wheels.

If Jimbo is in doubt about the deal now, Gareth, why not reveal all? He may be able to negotiate the tier 1 warranty as a sweetener?

Sorry, duplicated your post James. You must be gutted!

I have, IIRC RSJ were selling the car for around £30,000 when they had only just bought it from the owner who was selling it for £23,750 (they could have potentially paid even less).

Link is here : http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1003519.htm

There was a thread on here discussing the 'markup' but I can't find it.

Sorry James I'm not trying to be cruel, just giving you all the facts.

Not at all Gareth, appreciate the feedback, with any luck I will get my money back in full.

Watch out for any new cars Im looking for, will definitely look to get your feedback.

Would the call be to buy from a main mercedes dealer, or buy private, on the basis Mercedes pre-approve the car for an extended warranty?

I bought mine from a small garage, I reckon it would have been easily 3k more from a dealer. I did manage to knock 1k off their screen price though.

I really hope you get your deposit back mate, good luck.

no probs, I would have posted it in my first post but it took me a while to track it down on Pistonheads.

The reason i queered the wheels is i saw a set on a CLK55 at Olly's GTG on Saturday and didn't like them, also Tudu had them on his C55. I am a fan of only AMG's.

I don't think you should have any trouble getting your deposit back as the sold you the Wheels as factory fitted AMG's

They have offered to knock £1,000 off.

I looked the wheels up online, they seem decent enough.

Not sure what to do, any thoughts?

To me the car is way overpiced... 3 months is a rubbish warranty from a dealer so id say this is more like a private sale.

Its also not the best colour in the world from a resale prespective.

its value is 23K private and 26k dealer... as they are not really giving you a dealer package, its worth 24-25K tops.

Sorry to hear of your rollercoaster day - and it's only lunch time!!

The wheels are good quality - just not AMGs. Buyers - and insurers - tend to prefer originality, but if you like them and the insurance are happy, then everyone's a winner.

With regards to warranty and where to buy from next time: private, independent, or main dealer, bear in mind that the Tier 1 warranty is the same in all but name as the Approved Used Warranty, with one difference - MOT cover is included in Tier 1.

You would be equally well protected warranty-wise with a car purchased from an independent or private seller as you would a main dealer if you get a Tier 1 warranty.

However one thing to consider is that a private seller - and many independents - might not be as flexible in the event of a non repairable problem, like you've just experienced, eg discrepency on spec or history.

The Tier 1 warranty will give you peace of mind for at least 12 months - giving you time to decide if you bought a peach or a lemon. Do shop around as some dealers may offer a free or cheaper inspection in order to get the warranty sale - even dealers which are part of the same group sometime compete on price!!

Alternatively shop around third-party warranties. Tesco Finest seems to have a fairly good reputation, it pretty comprehensive, and good value. You also have the Tesco name to use as leverage should you encounter problems in the event of a claim. They're also AMG friendly!! ;)

Keep us posted on what you do next.

"Hmmm you have me worried now, they definitely have the AMG logo on them, & were factory fitted by Mercedes."

James, do they have a stuck on logo? Someone is trying to pass them off as AMGs.

If you like the car, and everything else is in order, I would review the facts as to the way the car has been advertised, one/two owner etc, and also consider their mark up. I reckon they will still have £5k profit on a misrepresented car. I'd want an additional £1.4k to cover the tier one warranty. Fair enough, they will then only be making £3.6k, but won't have to worry about out of pocket warranty expenses.:thumb:
