SLK 55 AMG *advice*

You are able to have your deposit back and walk (if you want to) based on mis-representation.

Trading Standards woud support you - and they will know this....the law states the car must be "as described" - an extra owner (are you sure about this or are you just going by the Pistonheads advert you linked where it says 2?) and cheap(er) aftermarket wheels that are not AMG means you can un-do the deal and get your deposit back.

Please don't view the deal as if you are under pressure to take the offered reduction - you are in the driving seat.

Hmmm, I have to say for the spec this car has, if I stack it up against a main mercedes used approved car, it seems like a reasonable deal.

I am paying a total of 29k, however before you laugh, for that all 4 of the wheels are being refurbed by a diamond edge specialist, they will look like new. £500 approx. The price includes the £250 Mercedes charge for a PDI check in order to issue an extended warranty, also the £1,000 Mercedes will charge for the Tier 1 Warranty, there are a handful of tiny paintchips, plus a chip on the windscreen that they are going to fix up to my liking.

The car will literally be in MINT condition, just with lesser wheels, however I drive away with a full 1year Mercedes Warranty. Service is not due until 2011, MOT Feb 2010.

Add to this they are giving me an extra £500 for my p/x than I would get elsewhere.

I could have got the car at approx £26,500 however I have insisted on the wheels being refurbed, tiny tidy up on bodywork, & the full Merc inspection plus 1 year tier 1 warranty.

May be slightly over the odds, but cheaper than I would get through a main dealer, & drive away with the same MB reassurances.

All thanks for all your advice & help, I ended up settling for around £2,700 of extras, including a new key, full tier 1 warranty 12mths, fully refurbed wheels, near perfect bodywork touch ups (all very minor, just me being extremely fussy!), plus an extra £500 on my 323Ci p/x that I couldnt get anywhere else.

Still keen to hear the do's & donts of driving & caring for this car...

No jokes about how not to buy a used one from a specialist porsche dealer...Im happy enough at the end of the day :-).

Thanks again.

That will definitely be a consideration once I get everything sqaured up, where would you start looking?

Just managed to get back on from this morning and it seems you had a bit of a roller coaster day:rolleyes:. Anyways, all seems ok now and youre happy with the outcome.

The best advice I can give you is there are no strict "do's and dont's" just drive the thing and try out all the features like cruise, manual mode etc, they certainly benefit from being used enthusiastically shall we say:D. There is a member here, Scumbag, who had one of these and used to live round the corner from me and took me out, (not in the relationship sense you understand;)) one sunny Friday evening for a blast and.....they are awesome. Mines a "mere" 280, fully bedded in, not quite up to the same level of a 350 or 55 but its a riot all the same.

Just enjoy.

Portzy.

Glad to see you got the car at a deal you're happy with.......I agree with the replacing the alloys comment.....but only if the price is right.

The only 'do' I can think of is:

do use the convertible roof :)

It was mentioned in another thread how many convertible cars are seen with the roof up on a perfectly decent day.

Tesco Finest seems to have a fairly good reputation, it pretty comprehensive, and good value. You also have the Tesco name to use as leverage should you encounter problems in the event of a claim. They're also AMG friendly!! ;)

Keep us posted on what you do next.

I think Tesco Finest has a 3.5 litre limit ...

I did take a quick look at Tesco, "the computer said No" so to speak, confirming the above.

Are you sure about the service? Thought the plugs need doing every 4 years or 40k on a 55, oh and two per cyclinder so 16 to do!
Either way, enjoy!!

I pick it up with a full Mercedes PDI & Tier 1 Warranty at a cost of approx £1,360 that RSJ are covering as part of the deal, so I have peace of mind now.

Hi All,

I wanted to say a big thankyou for setting me straight on a few basics of buying a used SLK 55 AMG, despite all of the above history with me haggling for a better deal with RSJ Cars, there was a final twist, ultimately the straw that broke the camels back, I needed documentation & further details of the non std wheels fitted, when, where, basic stuff. When I called to speak with RSJ, they said they did not have this documentation, & the previous owner was not able to advise either. Having prev told me the car had ALL docs from new, this was too much to bear. I vented my frustration, RSJ Cars & I quote "If you are not happy, then we do not want an unhappy customer, we can send your money back" to which I replied, please do, with immediate effect.

I then went to meet Mercedes Direct, & bought the following example, all original, all history, less miles, same spec (virtually, all the big stuff), £500 less than RSJ wanted. Would have preferred the all black leather interior though.

Couple of questions, Im really keen to get my hands on the AMG styled Rear Wind Deflector, appears tricky to find online, any advice on purchasing one would be gratefully received.

Also what do you all think of the Red/Black interior...stylish, or garish (be honest!).

Well done, looks like a good find.

The interior looks good to me as the red suits the sports image the car has. Look after the driver's seat otherwise it will wear and fade faster than the passenger seat.

Thanks, any tips on caring for the driver seat, this is my 1st super car where I will actually make the effort to keep it looking A1.

I'm not car detailing expert, but I use Autoglym products to clean my car and am very happy with the range. I've also heard good things about 'liquid leather' to feed the seats and keep the leather subtle and crack free.

Great, anyone have advice on buying an AMG styled rear wind deflector, proving tricky to find online, managed to find one for the SL, but not the SLK.

Good looking colour combination, although most of us did not like the other wheels you are going to find cleaning those AMG wheels Fun !!

That sounds like they are going to be a pain to clean!?

Im still having no joy finding an AMG rear wind deflector for the car, it would appear the best I can get is the standard SLK Perspex screen, then buy transparent AMG sticker to finish it off.

Anyone have any good ideas on how to go about getting the right deflector, & looking good in true AMG style?
