SLK Roof - Remote Operation from Key Fob

Does anyone (e.g. Richard or Alfie) know if the option to operate the roof from the keyfob on the facelift R171 SLK is just a coding change or if there's any hardware involved?

you need a sensor on the rear of the door handles to point the thingy at.

It is only a cheap option when ordering a car about £90 iirc, but way more to retrofit.
The most popular mod to give this and more functionality is a unit called Smarttop which is about £250 and a relatively easy fit - BUT - there are warranty issues with installing this. I was considering this but not sure because of the warranty. Anyway, now that we are getting as new factory order we have spec'd the remote roof
