I've just agreed to buy a 2008 SLK 200 and have the choice (from MB approved) of a 2 year warranty or a 1 year warranty and 2 free services.

What services are likely to be needed on a July 2008 SLK with 14,500 miles and how much do they cost? Which seems better value? I assume the second years warranty can also be purchased seperatley.

Thanks.

Geoff

Has anyone had any experience of theses deals please?

Depends a bit on what they mean by a service. Is this just the basic service or does it include the "extras' such as spark plugs, coolant/brake fluid change, aircon recharge etc. Personally I would go for the warranty. Depends a bit on how many miles you do.

Hi Geoff!

A 2008 car should be on Fixed Interval servicing (1yr / 15,500 miles) which means that it should have had an A Service in 2009, and a B Service in 2010 even though it's only done 14,500 miles now. Next service will be an A (circa £200).

You can check likely service costs on any of the Inchcape Group MB sites, and you can work out the additional items for that car by playing with mileage and registration date on the Mercedes-Benz ESS site.

Something to bear in mind is that the R171 SLK is generally very reliable, so that may influence your value judgement about the second year warranty.
