slk230 star tested no live?

mb mechanic ran car through stat computer ,only fault with the car is eng managment light on,runs ok . computer says no live to enable it to read ecu, it will run through outher tests, any ideas ?2002 230 slk

virgin needs help

my 1st post ,no replys is it that my info is poor or has nobody out there had a similar problem, i assume that a live must be traceable? any body know the test points to check before i let merch at it and watch the money drift away from me, help

not sure. did the MB mechanic not know? presumably when you say no live you mean no connection to the ecu?

the pins in the socket used should be no.4 - permanment earth, no.8 switched live, no.7 engine diagnostic output.
