SLK55 £7.5K?

Same thing it was changed to make it easier to understand
Cat c/si s on the v5
Cat d/n isn't
It is not the same thing.

Category C and D total loss was down to the cost, not whether the damage was structural or not.

So why is c on the v5 and not d
It isn’t always, I’ve actually owned a category-C car that wasn’t recorded on the V5.

Regardless, the marker C or D is down to cost of repair, not structural or non-structural damage :)

Ok that's a new 1 on me

New one on me too.

I actually agree with Will - A lot of car for not a great deal of outlay ..... If it drives OK and has an MOT then well worth a punt - I paid a lot more for my MX-5 Roadster!

I remember when there was a high mileage but I damaged SLK 55 with Chromaflair paint, for £7k. I was very tempted.

It was for sale for absolutely ages and dropped to £6k, and when it eventually sold it may have been even less.

It wasn’t very old at the time - maybe 10 years or so ago - but had done around 120k miles with good service history.

Should have had it!

The category definitions.
They’ve been what they are ever since they came out.

I think the trouble is a lot of what people think they know about categorised cars is from their mate at a pub or reading what others have posted on forums (I get the irony! )- hence I did link to the HPI site.

I would rely on ABI or HPI etc over hearsay every time.

I strongly suspect the misunderstanding as demonstrated just here is part of the reason for the change from C and D to S and N as used nowadays.

Unless you know what the categories mean and are familiar with salvage cars it can be a bit of a minefield.

Also worthy or note is that like many things that rely on human judgment it can be surprising to see the difference between cars that have been assessed for damage and subsequently recorded. The categories are black and white as to what they mean, but how the damage is assessed and priced up can vary immensely.

So what would be your opinion on this Will

Had a chat with the owner, nice guy, has a ton of history, he put on the X pipe and got it re-mapped, MB replaced the subframe. is open to offers.

So not category C as stated in post #6!

Looks like it’s sold now anyway? :thumb:

Looks like he’s re advertised it, and he’s edited the original advert (and this one).

Note the history files and Mercedes-Benz club sticker in the windscreen.

Seems to be some confusion here - seller now states cat-C (was not in advert originally) and vehicle report on post #34 states it was recorded as S.

It can’t be category C if it was total loss in December 2017, as the report posted indicates.

I think Cat S replaces the old Cat C, same thing.
