snapped injector bolt

There was a good article on removing stuck injectors in the February 2014 issue of Car Mechanics magazine. It might be worth ordering a back issue.

They mention a mobile specialist AP Diagnostics Ltd. 07799 108594. Tony charges £62 per injector (with a minimum charge of 2 injectors) plus travelling expenses and has some custom made hydraulic pullers.

I drilled my bolt out without "stepping up" drill sizes. I just went straight in with a Dewalt HSS Extreme 7mm bit and the top unthreaded part of the hole gave me a guide to keep me straight. Bit of tape around the drill for depth and the drill took it out in no time.

I then used the 8mm Helicoil kit and found it easy to do. The only problem was that the new 8mm bolts I bought didn't like going in to the helicoil, like it was cross-threaded and I ended up tapping out the helicoil to make the bolt go in smoothly.

All seems good now though :-)
