Sold the Merc, moving on

Rather a 2nd hand 55 wouldent you?
Nope. Wouldn't want the bills to repair it and the higher road tax and additional fuel costs!

The Saab's an oil burner, gets used everyday and despite producing 200 bhp and 400Nm (after Hirsch remap) still gives 40+ mpg... no brainer really! :)

oh who buys a AMG then worries about fuel and high bills if you cant do the time dont do the crime....

but i suppose saab do blend in, very mondeo like

Don't hold back Sonny. Say what you really mean. :D

Saab seats are very good. Volvos' seats are better. IMHO

Sonny, If the 5.5 bills don't worry you, why don't you have one then?????? Have you ever owned anything other than old MB's? If you haven't how can you possibly comment on the quality of any other car?:D:confused:
Saab seats will cosset you in a way that MB can only dream of, certainly in equivalent price brackets anyway. If I could fit Saab seats in the W212 I would do, way way better. IMHO:D

so its still 5.5 for me. :thumb:

I don't remember saying I want an AMG or can't afford the bills.

I have other things in my life and paying huge amounts to run a car isn't a priority. We're not all AMG obsessives here Sonny......... or are we?? :D

I guess you weren't on the Save Saab convoy then.. :D:D:D:ban:

All fair points and yes it's all fine with me:thumb::D. The Saab I had was a 9-5 with full leather arm chairs but then I am double your age +. You start looking at a bit of comfort & regardless of what engine you've got speed limit on the motorway is still 70MPH. Me I'll have the comfy seats thanks rather than the ban for speeding which I know I would be tempted to do if I had 5.5. I lived in Germany for quite a few years came back to UK and decided big petrol engines weren't a good idea for me personally.Too damn tempting:D

Sonny, I respect your choice of car, your results with the cars you've shown us here are amazing. Love 'em. But, can you accept that some people also like and buy other cars and even if you hate them, show a little respect for their choice... :)

Sorry to hear your leaving MB but a huge congrats on your new purchase fabes :thumb: I hope it brings you many miles of happy motoring. You defiantly made the right choice opting for the Saab over the Audi.

Enjoy the new toy!!

yea i know, theres a Time and place though.

theres also a flip side to that coin.. im a mercedes enthusiast always have been always will be so from my point of view people should respect this is a mercedes benz forum, if people are going to talk about other cars in general discussion you have to expect ol sonny boy to have something to say about it :p

i feel that true mercedes fans are dying off.

My own view is that the majority of Mercs are no longer 'special'. Yes they are very nice cars, but other manufacturers also make very nice cars. The differential that once saw Mercedes far above the pack, no longer exists, as Mercedes competes for position among the popular classes.

Obviously there are some MB's that are a little different and special, such as the AMG, but even then they have competitors from BMW and Audi.

It does not mean that I (or others) don't like Merc, that's why we have one - but other cars can do a similar, or in some cases a better job. Recognising that doesn't detract from being an MB enthusiast, but probably more of a realist.

Agreed! I love MBs! I'm on my third now and will definately buy a CLS and possibly an SLK to fool around in also. But, I have enjoyed many other makes along the way and may do so in the future. I expect to always have an MB in the drive, but more than likely something else too. Diversity is good, or you could say, "too much of a good thing is bad"... :D

+1 to that, there are great cars beyond the three pointed star. Ive grown up in a hardcore MB enthusiasts house, Where if i would of said "actually dad im a fan of BMW". i would of more than likely been disowned but all of us have favorite non MB cars, ie my mum loves MB but out of all the cars shes had her favorite one was a blue Renault 11 auto she had when i was a tot because it suited what she needed at the time so well.

I wouldn't underestimate Saab. They arent as well put together as an MB but I drove a late 900 coupe from Monmouth to Plymouth which it did with ease. It was quite (even with a sports exhaust) smooth, extremely comfy, and very deceptive with speed. it would easily creep close to banable speeds and you would think you were only doing 65ish. after that trip which it did better than any car ive drive including MB's :s i spend most of the holiday peering through the window of Saab Falmouth.

as i said,
the true mb fan is dying off..^these quotes are direct proof^.
funny enough though my brother was talking about cars (hes still looking for a e500 388bhp ver) and saab came up as one of them cars you dont notice i brought up to him about on here people raving about fwd low powered saabs and he just couldent fathom it. its the same with me, saabs are just cars your aunt uses to shuttle the dogs about. the m113 V8 alone is better than anything from gmc anyway. i suppose im greatly biased(duh) but it comes down to this...

CLK63 Blackseries > GMC as a company

or
not so far from the truth

a 160,000 miles n reg white c180 (clapped) > GMC:thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

Lol, I havn't slept mate, late night,:D and I have work in a few hrs...:(

same here i have a crazy cold...and the ~UK blues....i was cheered up by literly by 2 3 series crashing into each other.. and then a m3 flying past me in a 30 doing about 60 then seeing it 2 mins later getting nicked....:thumb: the streets will have 3 less prats on it for a few days
