Sold the Merc, moving on

as i said,
saab came up as one of them cars you dont notice i brought up to him about on here people raving about fwd low powered saabs and he just couldent fathom it. the m113 V8 alone is better than anything from gmc anyway. i suppose im greatly biased(duh) but it comes down to this...

CLK63 Blackseries > GMC as a company

Sonny

GM haven't owned Saab for quite a while. :thumb::thumb::thumb::D:D:D
It's not exactly a fair comparison is it V8 vs 4cyl turbo. Bit like pitching a Yorkshire terrier into a fight with a pitbull:crazy::crazy::crazy:
I don't think anyone is trying to say Saab's are comparable with MB's across the board. Just that they are a nice place to park your ar*e on a long journey. ;)
1 other thing on that same long journey a Saab will get you a darn sight further for a lot less money than the V8 you keep comparing it to in both fuel, insurance and purchase costs. Pound for pound a good Saab seat can't be bettered IMHO.
I still like my W212 though, hence being on this forum. Would I swap it for a Saab? No not currently I am financially able to run what I have got but if I hit a bad patch later on then I'd have a Saab over an Insignia or Mondeo or any VW offerings inc. Audi. Just my preference.:thumb:

And who owns SAAB now.....

Spyker ;) :ban::thumb:

Fanboy has made it into Webster's Dictionary by the way.

There is a massive difference between being a fan and a fanboy.......

FANBOY

A person willing to defend and promote the object of his affection regardless of fact and objectivity. This encompasses everything from technological items like PC's and game consoles to petrol heads and fishing fanatics.

Hearing something is 'the best in the world' from someone who has lived and experienced the competition usually holds far more credit.

The one thing that you notice about fanboys, is they tend to get nasty to the people who do not agree with them, rather than putting over their argument as to why the product they are defending is so much better.
You see this all over forums and clubs, from av forums, to PC forums, to gaming forums etc. etc. always the same.

There is nothing wrong with being a fan, but there is something wrong with being plain rude, and that is the problem with most fanboys, and what can sometimes be a fair and good argument is then lost needlessly.

as i said,
the true mb fan is dying off..^these quotes are direct proof^.
funny enough though my brother was talking about cars (hes still looking for a e500 388bhp ver) and saab came up as one of them cars you dont notice i brought up to him about on here people raving about fwd low powered saabs and he just couldent fathom it. its the same with me, saabs are just cars your aunt uses to shuttle the dogs about. the m113 V8 alone is better than anything from gmc anyway. i suppose im greatly biased(duh) but it comes down to this...

or
not so far from the truth

a 160,000 miles n reg white c180 (clapped) > GMC:thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

I truly admire your passion for our beloved brand but in the cold light of day there is a difference between enthusiasm and ignorance. IMO as an all round package their are very few cars that can better an MB but im willing to accept the fact that their are cars out there that can do some things better than an MB.

Forgetting big V8's vs 4cyl Turbos because thats just unrealistic. A while back i did some homework on diesels. I looked at the Saab 9-3 Tid 150, Audi A4 TDI 140, and MB C220 cdi, i think if you look at OTR price, performance, and MPG. you will find the Saab represents better value.

I dare you to go and testdrive a Saab, Im not saying you will fall in love with it and forget all about MB but you will be impressed by the ride, comfort, and mid range power for the price.

Fair point - but have you also factored in depreciation ??:eek:

Buy a 2 or 3 yr old one and it makes a lot of sense to look towards Sweden.:)

+1 ^^

Once the main bit of depreciation is out the way and they hit the used car market, you do get a hell of alot of car for the money. From what ive seen once they get to around the 5-10k mark they stay there for quite a while regardless of miles. In many way i regret not buying a Saab over the Audi as i only had the car 12 months.

Best way to buy one is as a demonstrator, which is what I did. I got a fully loaded (with every extra Saab offers), TWIN turbo diesel producing 180 bhp and trainloads of torque BEFORE the Hirsch upgrade, convertible that was just 3 months old with 1000 miles, for £15K under list! Even now, 2 1/2 years on, it's only just dropped below my purchase price! Now THAT'S value. Used it over this weekend to knock up 400 miles in sublime comfort, rapid progress and 50mpg.....

Yes, for style and impressing my clients I use my MB, (soon to be a CLS).
Of course Saab and Merc aren't comparable. Who ever said they were? But Saab ARE good cars and possibly the best of the rest, IMO. :)

There is something about Saabs though, they have that understated presence that Audi used to have 10-15 years ago.

My parents bought a SAAB 900 Turbo in 1985, brilliant car (apart from the turbo lag), super seats and good to drive. It is still being driven around in Plymouth by the second owners, paint in excellent nick.

Thats the thing about them you neither love them or hate them until you've experienced one. What i like about them besides the value is they have a bit of flair to them (ok it did get diluted a bit in the GM era) and that They go on forever, like MB and Volvo you often here stories of them breaking the 1,000,000 mile mark.

If I could change anything on our Saab, I'd improve the plastics used for the dash. It's not bad, but could be better. Hirsch offer a leather dash and interior trim option which looks great but costs a LOT of money! If "new" Saab were sensible, they'd stick the Hirsch dash and interior bits on as standard on all new, facelift 9-3s. Apparently they have on the latest "anniversary eddition" convertible..

Sonny, your hatred of Saabs is getting tedious - - can we simply agree to disagree and move on? You love Mercs, period. I love Mercs and other cars too. Period. :)

I dont think they are to bad on the plastics front but they could do with a bit more strength and padding behind them because they do pick up a few rattles with age, I really like the sound of the leather trimmed dash, Ive not looked for a while now but have you tried ELK parts, they usually have some good OEM and tuning bits in at fairly reasonable prices. Did you ever see the Yankton NG900? They did a suede and carbon dash, Not very homely but it restores a bit of that jet fighter fell

worst interior i have ever seen. silly 3 series dash board.

I have to admit its not the best looking dash in the world but like a 3er its ergonomically correct so its comfortable and easy to use while on the move. From the drivers seat tho it looks pretty cool especially when illuminated.

The Hirsch 9-3 interior. A lot better than the standard GM one!
