Someone has driven into my car, what to do?

Claim off your insurance for that. I bet you would be looking at least a grand to sort that out if you knew someone in the trade.

Such a shame.

Here is a couple of pics of the damage:

Write off !!!***???.......joking......but definitely an insurance job.

I've downloaded the Insurance forms and filled out as best I can until I can get through to someone tomorrow for further advice of what to do next, it seems fairly straight forward for claiming for accidental damage when a vechicle is parked over claiming when there is another vechicle involved?.

That isn't a lorry, just some one who had smacked into it and driven off. The cost might not be too bad for a cash job using a 2nd hand wing and bumper. it doesn't require a new bonnet or light unit as there is a light unit repair kit available.

Yes , well worth phoning round some of the specialist breakers to see if someone has a donor car with a good wing and bumper ....... since silver is a fairly common colour , there is a good chance of getting the parts in the right colour which will likely match well enough without needing painted ( I have done it with Diamond Blue ) , then it could be a simple DIY repair over a weekend , and maybe only a couple of hundred out of pocket which would make it preferable not to involve insurance .

No less annoying , though .

Sorry to see that!!
Jesus you would have though that if you did that kind of damage you would feel the need to just leave your number on the window.
Hope you get some kind of cctv and have them done.
Proper out of order that is.....hope you don't get to hammered by your insurance!

Well its taped up and driveable for now, the tracking feels a bit out though, I will be phoning the Insurance first thing tomorrow morning then will take it to a couple of places for estimates, I'm really hoping that as no one else is involved etc and it's accidental damage it should get fixed quite fast.

W211 wings are had to come by and it needs an AMG bumper, plus it's a E55 so a botched repair on OP's drive is not really an option.

Even with used parts that's a £1000 repair.

That looks bad, something has really smashed into that.

£1000 will not get that repaired, no way.

Just claim on your insurance, thats what its there for. Whatever you do dont repair it on the cheap. Shame you not close to me as you would be more than welcome to come visit my shop, at least you would know its in good hands.:thumb:

Good luck.

I take your point that if the parts are 'rare' then the prices may be higher ,

but unbolting a wing & bumper then carefully fitting replacements ( a simple job for anyone remotely diy-capable ) is hardly a 'botched repair' .

Not bothering to paint parts to repair any car is a botched repair as the new bits will stick out like a sore thumb, fair enough for some old banger, but for a W211....

This car will also need bumper supports, a lamp repair and maybe some other bits.

You're right, even if my insurance goes up a few hundred £ next year it's still alot cheaper than forking out for the repair on it, where abouts in town are you, I might bring it up there.
Do you know how long things like this usually take to get ok ed?, I suppose it takes longer waiting for parts on something like this as I doubt their in stock.

Within one week normally, depends on the insurer, some act quicker then others, most will agree/authorise costs via images on a system called Audatex.

Parts will be available next day with the exception of the bumper perhaps, if that’s not in the UK its usually 5 days from Germany.

Acton NW10.

PS, no, you cannot have my E55 as a loan car.
:)

That lamp looks very bad to me. Moulding, pdc sensors fog/grille/centre grille, jet wash pump and bumper support/pads etc thats a large sum of money right there.

This repair will be thousands!

MB paint colour is pretty consistent , particularly on newer cars when there has been less time to fade .

Some manufacturers will even supply panels pre-painted .

Hardly a 'botched job' . All sundry parts would also come from a donor car .

It was you who first suggested using secondhand parts to save money , DIY would have saved even more , especially hereabouts where used parts prices are not so inflated as they are further south . It would also have avoided any record of a substantial claim going on the owners insurance history , which he will have to disclose for the next five years , despite being blameless .

However , the OP seems happy to go with his insurer , so little point in debating it .

I remember several years ago I bumped my Z3 into an Audi estate at a roundabout 5 / 10 mph (roundabout thought he had gone moment...)

It looked like hardly anything really and only as the audi man went through his insurance so did I (couldn't see anything wrong with his?)

In the end and I still have it somewhere, 4 sheets of A4 paper of parts / time to fit parts and labour all broke down. It came to around £3000.

I had a quote from a 'back street' garage to fix and it was £300 if I provioded a new grille (around £40).

I would be interested to hear how much the assesor thinks?

Is the head light / bumber ok?

With mine, it was all the little clips / shock absorbers (behind the bumper), then the fitting, spraying that soon the price went silly.

Protected no claims meant my insurance didn't go up much if any from memory, good job as back then driving a Z3 it must have cost enough anyway :)

Actually , looking at the way that has impacted , check that the wing has not been pushed back into the drivers door or it will chip paint off the leading edge whenever the door is opened/closed .

Just be prepared for the insurance company to ask for proof of trading as part of the claim process, claiming from a trader's policy can be hard work sometimes, especially if it's one of the cheepo companies who do everything possible not to pay out...

From what I can see on the pictures we would submit an estimate to the insurer at just over 4k.
