I learned a valuable lesson last night and I take full responsibility for not checking and realising a big problem :o .

Last night I came home from work to find I had a flat. So I carried out the necessaries and all was going well until I came to relpace the wheel nuts. My wheels are standard 10-hole alloys, my spare is steel. My wheel nuts are extended and therefore 100% useless for my spare. And I have no standard wheel nuts......... (guess what my next purchase is gonna be!!).

Fortunately I was able to borrow my mum's car and get the flat sorted.

I hold up my hands and accept the "Numpty of the Day" award.

Not the 1st to have been caught out. At least you realised not to use the too long bolts for the alloys on your steel wheel.

I've g0t 20 standard wheelnuts for steel wheels kicking about also if anyone needs 'em.

Just looked in my boot and on top of my plastic thingy that sits on my spare wheel, are 4x steel wheel studs.
Got me worried there for a second.

Am I the only one who has a matching alloy as a spare ? How are the cars normally supplied from the factory, with 5x alloys or 4x alloys and a spare?

I'd just assumed you normally got a set of 5.

Nope, I got two spare identical alloys (so that I can get my wheels refurbed two at a time) and five spare steels that I intend to stick winter tyres on when I get around to it.

Both my w202 c230k sport models have come with an identical alloy spare, I believe this is factory spec, I can't imagine it's a fleet/leasing thing.

Of course these days when you buy a brand new MB you either get a flimsy space-saver thing or a bottle of tyre-repair goo! ;) :p
