Speedtronic...good/bad??

Actually set mine to 55 and don't have a problem. The beauty of it is you can just put your foot down and the car won't go any faster than the speed set so no worries. Works in increments of 5MPH.

While speedtronic is engaged you can't use cruise control. It's one or the other

Are you sure?,putting your foot down(kickdown)will over ride the system i'm sure.

Yeah just learnt that today. I very rarely use kickdown due to the abundance of torque across the rev range so haven't come across this before. Even when accelerating hard I usually don't go into the kickdown switch.

You haven't been trying hard enough then!:D;)

Actually for the most part I just don't see the point, the acceleration actually seems better only going up to about 4,000 revs before a gear change than it does when screaming up to the red line. You can feel it tail off at the top end of the rev range before the gear change when using kickdown. When not using it the car just keeps pulling until you have to lift off, slow down a bit, and sorry officer I didn't realise I was going quite so fast :D

Fair point seeing as you drive a diesel mb,get in a petrol v8 & use kickdown-they don't tail off just take off:D

Speedtronic: push the stalk up or down to set the limit to be your current speed.

A further push up (or down) on the stalk raises the speed (or lowers it) to the next increment of 5mph (e.g. set it at 32mph and lift the stalk a second time and the limit raises to 35, then 40, etc.)

BUT pull the stalk towards you and the limit is raised in 1mph increments. You cannot reduce the set speed in 1mph increments but you can raise it.

It turns out I have no idea what I'm talking about, more new stuff (to me) this is great :bannana:

Yeah that's how it was on my SLK.. on the newer models once the limiter is activated you just flick the stalk up or down to increase/decrease by 1mph or push it all the way up or down to increase/decrease by 5mph.

Correct. My W204 works in the much more intuitive up/down = +/- 1mph, or push-past-the-detent to get +/- 5mph way and Angie's SLK (which is 2 years younger than my W204!) works on the "old" way which is quite confusing when you swap from one car to the other :o

On mine the cruise can be set in increments of 1mph but the limiter is done in increments of 5mph

I thought the limiter worked in increments of 1mph. But I might be wrong.

Are you sure? I thought Speedtronic was the name for the combined cruiise control and speed limit facility on MBs.

From the C class brochure -

"Cruise control with SPEEDTRONIC variable speed limiter"

Speedtronic is just the speed limiter, activated by pushing the end of CC stalk so the LIM light come on.

In my W211 brochure it's refered to as "Speedtronic cruise control" as opposed to the optional "Distronic radar assisted cruise control".

Not true.
You can set it in increments of 1mph.

10/10

On a 211 you flick the lever up for the 5mph incriment, and tap towards you for the 1mph incriment rise. In the 212 the flick the lever up raises it by 1mp, you flick it up another click for the 5mph rise. Its rather good

I love it, hate cruise control. Feet have to go somewhere but the speedtronic speed limiter allows you to vary the foot position but keep a constant speed. Ideal for town, where I use it all the time, and for A/B roads as well as Mways/DCWs. I use it unless am hooning and I want to play

BTW, kickdown overides it, in the event you need to power out of a situation.

Was this an option on the C-Class or only available in Europe? My old CLK had it but my 2005 W203 doesn't seem to have speedtronic only the cruise control.

+1 :thumb:

Seems it wasn't offered in the US, I couldn't find any mention of it in US brochures. :dk:

I use it all the time and love it, never use cruise control. Makes motorway driving relaxing as no need to panic every time there's a speed camera van on a bridge. Minor problem is, I'm so used to adjusting it, if I'm driving the wife's car or daughter's car I end up indicating by mistake.
