Guys

I was following this S-Class this morning, it pulled into the Porsche main dealer in Ferndown, I hope he wasnt doing a Part Ex on Cayenne :wallbash:. The car was in showroom condition. got a hurried pic taken on my mobile (apologies for quality) which doesnt do it justice. Sitting in rush hour traffic isnt so bad when you see cars like this in great condition.

Looks very nice .

Still plenty of smart looking 126's about - they were built to last .

Shame i did not,it was a bargain Mercedes SE 500 on eBay (end time 15-Aug-10 21:54:31 BST)

how comes you dident man..

Well,is was not going to get used and it would just sit on my drive doing nothing :o.I should have gone for it,but someone else could do with it more than me

I cant believe how little the saloons fetch... these silly prices wont last long, these cars are some of the best mercedes ever made.. Far superior to the W140...

What a beauty, what a bargain. Had I seen that I would have bought it.

I would not have been able to stop myself.

Dash, you really need chaining up away from your computer :)

Poke me in the eye, still the best car ever built, period. IMO anyway

That's the reason i skipped the 140 after my 560 126 and got the 7 series .

W126's are pretty much at rock bottom right now , just as W123's were two or three years ago . Now you'll pay two or three times that for a decent 123 and I reckon in a year or two all the rough 126's will likewise have been scrapped and the good ones that are left will be worth so much more .

Now is the time to invest , values can only go up from here , especially as more recent models start to age and more people begin to appreciate the solid engineering and relative simplicity of keeping the earlier cars on the road .

When I sold a w126 500SE in June 2008 it only managed £1501 with 171k miles on the clock. A 560SEL sold in October 2004 didn't do much better at £1900 or 1800 I think. They just aren't worth anything as they are still expensive cars to properly maintain and run. That eBay 500SE going for £941 is a shocker but lets hope it's not a secret lemon.

What amazing value these cars are now.

And have been for the last 10 years. The prices have absolutely bottomed-out for the saloons, especially in the last 2 years. As a second / third car, they make absolute sense to me. I find the later facelift interiors 1989-> cleaner and less fussy than the ribbed, earlier leather seats.

The second link shows a car in Impala metallic, and it suits the car well. They have amazing road presence, and an SEL is still used as a diplomatic car for one of the embassies around the north side of Belgrave Square.

Sadly , even those prices are pretty strong by today's standards .

I paid £1350 for my 500SEL two years ago with 148k on the clock and a new MOT as part of the deal - this was (and still is) an enthusiast owned and maintained car bought from a fellow member of the MBOC after looking at so many rough cars , some with higher asking prices .

My absolute bargain has to be my 280SE bought earlier this year for £100 , needs a little work but very sound and presentable - a bargain I couldn't pass up . The 420SE I just broke was bought by my friend's parents a couple of years back for £400 , they just bought a very smart 300SE to replace it for £200 and I know where there is a very tidy one owner 300SE for sale at £200 just now - trying to figure how I can buy it without incurring the wrath of SWMBO .
