W211 E Class SBC Pump

Zero chance Ash. Rumour had it that you could get the pump directly from Bosch for around £600 but that turned out to be false.

Where did that development come from Roger?

My post #61 was as a result of leaving my inde a voicemail and after next talking to him - he confirmed he was able to source the pump direct...

Not a huge surprise really.

I share "television's" cynicism in post #128.

I guess my inde enquired but has yet to attain.

I will speak to him in due course to find out if there have been any developments since our conversation on it i.e. if he has got hold of one.

It looks like MB's installation makes the cost eye-watering.

£900 is a lot of cash but not the end of the world in the scheme of these great cars.

As an aside, is that the same Television who got banned from here yonks ago? Can't recall why, but 137k posts - phew! And I DON'T mean anything by that question! Just remember the name.

Back on track, I've just emailed a request for a reset quote for mine. An outfit called Sinspeed. No particular reason, other than the thread renewed my interest and might consider it.

Shall post if I hear back.

SBC counter reset quote received @£150 + vat. Approx 1hr to complete.

Probably just a token minimum time.

I think Olly does them on here doesn't he?

I imagine it takes a few minutes to do.

The process is

Hook up DAS (in dev mode)
Locate the correct sections and enter 0 as the new count (you can take note of the current actuations if you wish)
Exit DAS
Run the car for 10mins for the error to clear.

Called Terry this morning, booked the baby in for tomorrow morning, new pads and discs all round.
What do you guys think is a fair price for discs pads and sensors fitted..?

Top man Terry... Replaced pads and discs all round, nice approachable guy that is happy to help and answer any questions. Will definitely be using them again. Highly recommended.

Ash.

Hi,
Need bit of advice. I have my sbc pump warning light on the dash.
Can you please let me know how much they charge to upgrade the sbc pump software?
Many thanks

I took mine into a main dealer in 2011 and spoke about the SBC unit as it was a little bit loud.

They said it wasn't at the end of it's life but they updated the firmware and it did improve it a lot - the update also increased the counter limit I believe.

I don't like the idea of 'just resetting' but in the case where the unit is performing as it should - it seems a bit needless to replace...

How did they charge to upgrade the sbc pump software?
many thanks

I took it in because it had a recall outstanding, which is obviously FOC.

Whilst there, I moaned about how loud it was.

They said they would upgrade the firmware whilst it was in FOC.

Turned out that it wasn't loud at all but it didn't get quieter.

I mis-took the louder cycle it does when starting the car, caused by when you turn it off during a cycle, as being the normal volume it makes.

So it is silent and has been for nearly 5 years that I've owned it.

You could check if you are due any recalls on your car.

I think Olly @ PCS can do resets but you need to investigate further to be sure that is appropriate in case your pump is knackered.

Why did they replace SBC free of charge in USA and not UK?
"In a letter - only to US customers - dated August 2018 a warranty addendum was sent extending coverage for 25 years and unlimited miles on the following SBC components.
  • Hydraulic control unit
  • Hydraulic Pump
  • Pressure Reservoir
  • Brake Operating Unit
  • Front and Rear wheel speed sensors
  • Brake lamp switch
  • Yaw Rate Sensor
Out of warranty repairs of these items can be reimbursed by MB if proper documentation is provided"

One reason: litigation.

Unfortunately the use of class action in the UK courts died out more than a century ago but survives in the United States. Its the threat of this type of legal proceedings that afford a much better consummer redress in the event of widespread defective products in the USA. Seen possibly most recently with the "Dieselgate" VAG debacle and subsequent generous customer compensation.
