Stolen, W210 facelift mirrors

A friend of mine had his w210 e-class parked in his drive overnight, found out in the morning that his wing mirros had been stolen. He went to MB to order a new set, the guy said 'They are too easy to steal, just 3 screws. If I were you just dont fold them in'.

Any truth in that? If so, maybe we should not fold them in??

Even if you don't fold them in I thought they could just be pushed into the same position.

Replace the philips scews with torx, will slow them down a little. I expect you could buy security torx (the ones with the pin in the middle) without too much hassle too.

Steve (MBenzNL) swapped my normal screws for torx when he helped me fit them a couple of years ago. I still have the torx in the box ready for when they get installed again soon.

I expect you could buy security torx (the ones with the pin in the middle) without too much hassle too.

You can get the security torx bits from most hardware-type market stalls or from places like B&Q, but the opportunist thief is less likely to be carrying them I suppose.

i know a easy cure for that get a electric drill and wind the screw heads off. that would stop the little barstards trouble is youd have to drill them out if you needed to remove them and the extract the edge metal so its the best solution if it is only 3 screws

That's a real pain! Doesn't look like kids, probably some other owner needing spares as his W210 falls apart!! Ideas to fix using different screws is fine, torx are great, maybe even consider mixing the screw types. I did this after my garden shed got robbed by a screwdriver wielding tealeaf. Someone nicked the wiper off the front of my W210 a couple of years back, and I also had a sidelight removed from a Carlton a few years back. Some folks don't like to pay!

On a completely separate but related note my W210 facelift mirrors (Irish import) look like they should fold - but actually don't. Am I missing something or is it possible that the mirrors on Irish cars are different?

Nicking MB mirrors is very common in Germany.

Yours are probably going on Ebay today!
