Hi,

Would anyone be able to recommend a Stone Chip repairer in the south east -preferably near Brentwood, Essex.

I've left a message with Chips Away for a week now - heard nothing.

Thanks,
Jonathon.

If its stone chips to the bonnet, to get the best results you will ideally need to get the complete bonnet done in order to blend in the paint....I assume you have a metallic.

Cost wise a good bodyshop would charge @ £250-300

In my experience, I would never go anywhere near chips away again - Suffice to say that guy was actually asleep on my driveway when I went out to see how he was getting on !! This was actually a blessing in disguise because it meant he wasn't actually working on my car - The quality of repair he (and the bloke afterwards) did was embarrassing. Needless to say The parent company didn't want to know as ' ..they are all franchisees'. Thanks for your help ....

+1

I had a similarly poor experience with Chips Away too. I have a friend who swears by them - it all comes down to the franchisee. The Chips Away brand seems to offer no guarantee of quality or service. Bit of a lottery!!

When I phone the Chips Away guy he said that as my car was 3 years old and metallic silver, he would not touch it. Suggested that I have the bonnet resprayed. I think that he did me a favour.

You must be joking - A MB approved body shop wanted £750 to re-spray my bonnet and blend in the wings just for a few minor stone chips:crazy: They then knocked it down to £550 using the cheaper labour rate after I laughed at them. I'm going to get MB touch up stick and a fine artist's paint brush and fix it up myself as the chips are very minor for a few quid...;) :)

£250- 300 is what I pay, but then again I do get trade rates from the MB approved bodyshop that I use....I should have thought about that before I replied, but I just get used to the prices I pay

In terms of the chips away guy, he's absolutely right, silver is the worst colour to blend and there is very little liklihood of blending in a repair area on a bonnet without it looking dreadful
