As above. had a near head on collision with another car doing twice the 40 mph limit. he swerved around a cyclist and was head on to me but i swerved in time but our wing mirrors hit each other resulting in a smashed wing mirror glass. strange thing is that some fluid has leaked out of the smashed glass and dripped onto my paintwork and ruined it as if it were brake fluid. i would love to know what the fluid is and what it does, cheers, Tony.

It the electrochromic fluid used to dim the mirror. Yes, it will wreck your paintwork

Its the autodimming liquid. yes its a killer for paintwork :(

Except it doesn't dim any more. One may as well buy a std replacement..

or get one 2nd hand off ebay, from a seller who doesn't know what they are selling.

You can tell from the photos if they are auto dimming as they have a thick rubber ridge round the outside.

I did this, got a complete mirror with decent glass for £30. Normally they go for £50-60 if the seller knows what they are.
