The kickdown on my 24 valve is truly phenomenal for such a big heavy car. Speed goes up, fuel goes down

But if I compare my car (inline 6) to Shude's car, for example (4 cyl Kompressor) I think the supercharged 4 would have the advantage from a standing start. The 4 cylinders seem to have a bit more get-up-and-go from the line. My power really comes into its own from 50-90, on a motorway slip road for example.

Mine also takes about 2-3 cranks to fire up properly - is this a trait of the big inline sixes?

I am of the opinion that the W124's were probably the last Mercedes built for the motorist, like me, who has a short pocket and doesnt mind the odd tinker under the bonet. Yes I am biased both color wise and style but what you see is what you get

Guessing the 1.7td astra @ about 80hp - gives me 1417hp - 76 valves but a total cubic capacity of only 11.5 litres - or 123hp avaerage for every litre
