Terraclean - Is it any good

Update following Terraclean

Today 1 March I drove from West Malling Kent to Virginia Water Surrey in the W202 C220 CDi. Brimmed the tank at the start and brimmed again at the same place on return
Distance. 100.8 miles Fuel used 8.27 ltrs. Or 55 miles per gallon! Outstanding return on a 12 yr old car and although nearly all the mileage was M26 and M25 I couldn't believe my figures but checked 3 times. Previously I was getting about 41 mpg

You managed to move on theM26? That's magic this week.

A month ago my W210 (56 plate 68000) went into limp home mode and the star diagnosed EGR valve failure. On inspection the port induction valve was only working at 25% efficiency. Both were totally coked up and required replacing. Cost £764 + VAT
Time will tell if the Terraclean would have prevented this but I will think about getting the EClass done in a couple of weeks.
As the dealers are thin on the ground you may be interested in the firm

On aside - a 56 E320 cdi will be a W211. Infamous for eating the Port Inlet Shutoff Motor that moves the flap.

Willsco you were being Terracleaned in January and said you would report back.
How did it go ?

Has anyone had this done on any of the merc V8's, particularly the supercharged verions and if so was it any good?

I've just returned from EMS Daly, Cupar, Fife having had both my Saab 9-3 Aero and my wife's E 320 cdi Terracleaned. Not a massive improvement in the Saab though the engine is markedly quieter and I have to hold the brake on when its in drive on an incline. The Mercedes (102000 mls) however has improved all round. Smoother gear change. Quieter idle. Better throttle response. The best part is that when we got the car in January the best consumption I saw was on a run to Manchester and back which was 36.5 mpg. Just driving it in various styles over the last 20 miles and it is showing 38.5 mpg. I will brim the tank and start to monitor it over the weekend but so far a result. I have read a lot of the forum q and a's and was unsure of having it done just in case it uncovered any underlying problems. So far so good.

I wouldn't believe any of this American Bull S__t until i saw a stripped down engine. I really can't believe the promotional pictures one little bit.

Just out of interest ? is it £ 80.00 for the complete service and does the price differ on types of engine i.e an E320cdi for example how much would this cost for a Terraclean service ?

I paid £90 inclusive of vat. I have been told that some outlets have a tiered pricing policy which rises with engine capacity. It took just over 2 hours. The garage did get a management light on with an unknown code. They think it may have been the delivery pressure on their equipment so they raised the pressure from 2 bar to 4 bar. It reset after the process finished. Hope this is helpful.

Members may remember I had this done on my W202 (176,000mls) and achieved huge improvements all around including 55mp on a motorway run.

So my W211 E 320 (76000mls) had the same treatment yesterday. This was following long discussions with my indie following failure of the EGR valve and inductor at 72000 miles cost circa £800 .(His boss had the same fault on a W211 E320, but including complete failure of the turbo. This cost over £2000!)

The car already has a significant improvement and although like many I have been a sceptic of these processes they appear to work. I shall now treat this as part of the annual servicing process

The W202 has now been sold and replaced with a C200k Kompressor Estate- big difference driving a petrol model

Booked S320 CDi ( v6 ) in today at 3pm, will report back on initial impressions later.

Well, been and had it done, took just over an hour... simple process, connect it up, run for 15 mins, leave for 20, run for a further 15 mins and disconnect system and drive home.... cost just over £100 and shows an immediate +5mpg on the on board computer over what I would expect however time will tell if that's real or just ambient conditions. The real difference is in the smoothness of the engine ( as smooth as the smelly stuff gets anyway ) and the improved acceleration. Mild differences but ones I welcome. Will report back in a month or so once it's been a distance.

It worked extremely well on my W202 C220. (176k) returning over 55 mpg on a motorway run

On my W211 E320 cdi (80000) it doesn't seem to have made a great difference although I haven't given it a good run. Off to Spain next month so will test it over a 1200 mile run

Still not done significant miles since having it done but did do a 90 mile run I do regularly and only showed +2mpg over the same run before having it done... not a scientific test or significant enough difference to draw any conclusions... HOWEVER... the car does run better and feels faster and smoother so still worth doing in my opinion.... I didn't get the clouds of smoke out the back others report having while having it done so I can only conclude my car was fairly clean to start with....

Thanks for the replies.

I'm considering Terraclean on my Vito and E430.
The Vito runs superbly and I'd like to keep it that way.
The 430 has a minor misfire at idle and when I changed the oil after owning the car for a couple of days I could tell it hadn't been done for a while.

I had my CLS320 CDI done yesterday in Stoke Poges @ 76k miles for £99 all in. I am impressed with how smooth the car has become, along with a gearbox oil change tomorrow it will be sweet as a nut.

MPG however doesn't seem to be massively increased, most long runs show an average of 37/38mpg now getting 40/41mpg. Will see over the tank if the miles increases...

All in all, i'm happy with the transformation, will probably get it done again at 100k, assuming I still have the car.
