Terraclean - Is it any good

I've also booked it in for tomorrow hopefully it will make a difference, not that the car drives rough. I've got 170 on the clock so should be good hopefully.

Any updates from those who tried Terraclean?

had mine done last November and have put about 15000 miles on the clock since. MPG on the computer seems to have settled down but still showing a little better than before.
For a car that has down 270,000 miles it runs very smooth and a lot of poke when needed. The local dealers always comment on that you wouldn't know it's done the miles if you don't look on the dash, it feels like it's done at least 100,000 miles less.

Just had mine done today in Dublin, Ireland.

€280 for my W211 E220 CDI 85,000 on the clock and my colleagues A4 225,000 Kms.

The guys came to us - did both cars in 2 1/2 - 3 hours.

Both cars seem quieter and appear to tick over more smoothly. My colleague is heading to Donegal over the weeked so will be putting up 5-600 miles which should be a good test.

Will report back.

These carbon cleaning systems do not necessarily give the driver any noticeable performance differences, the car could/should benefit from lower emissions but probably a placebo effect that it "feels" different in some cases.

We tested this on our 150k + Vito diesel vans by cleaning all of them apart from 2 out of the 8 and no one reported any difference, although the emissions were lowered and the engines benefited from the clean, our vans are highly maintained in the first place so the drivers made no remarks on improved mpg or running differences :)

You can get your own Terraclean system

Hmmm.....

Tempted! But the reviews seem to be mixed...

As previously mentioned I had this done on my W reg C Class 220 Cdi Est W202 which had covered 177k ( now sold). Response was great; better tick over, better acceleration and an increase in mpg to 54 mpg on a motorway run

Then had the same service on my 06 E Class 320 Cdi 79k. It made no or little difference

I have now had the Terraclean service on my W203 C Class 220 Kompressor Est ( petrol) 75k. Difference is marginal. There is better fuel consumption achieving 43 mpg on a motorway run but other things such as starting acceleration but it's a small improvement

Conclusion based on this meagre evidence. There is a better fuel consumption figures on the older cars both diesel and petrol. Nothing on the later V6 engine on the EClass

The best improvement was on the older W202 CDi. It's approx £80 each time and it doesn't do any harm

Given that the W211 had the EGR valve go at around 74K at a cost of £600 it may have been beneficial to have had this done before as the amount of carbon build up on this valve was horrendous. My Indie had the same thing happen to his 320 but with the complication of the Turbo failing also. Cost £2000!

I have been having problems with my Audi A4 3.0TDI, which several mechanics seem to think is down to shi**y fuel, so I have booked it in today to be done tomorrow, £126inc. VAT.
I know its not a Merc, but will report back the results, if positive I will get my AMG done.

Any more updates from people who have used this service ?

Apparently the fumes are toxic and can cause severe memory loss.

...which would explain it :D

I had this done on my E39 M5 not because it had any issues rather I was intrigued if the advertising was anywhere near reality.

Being very mindful of the power of placebo, I used a borescope on several cylinders both before and after to see if any carbon deposits had been removed as promised by the adverts.

On the drive home I felt no difference at all and when I did the after borescope in the two cylinders there was no difference what so ever.

Also I know of another M5 that had this done and it ended up costing him two new 02 sensors.

All I can say is its best with these things to go in expecting nothing. That way if you get any improvements even if its placebo then that's all good I guess.

As an aside, I note people have had issues with EGR valves. I had a Land Rover Discovery that had had the valves blanked off, a very popular modification that did no harm to the car - in fact, many owners reckoned it improved matters. Is this an option for a Merc?

Hi all

its a while since i have been on here

suffered at the hands of some of your members for giving my thoughts on a classified ad car that i went to visit as it was about 30 mins drive from me and i was tempted by it

anyway

my Audi a6 (i know, sorry) has had EGR valve issues and just had several parts replaced at 900 plus vat

i was driving the other day and the engine management light came on again

had the car scanned and egr came up again

I've called the garage and they say could be my injectors, had the car scanned by a local indy to and they seem to be within limits (the garage that did the erg say injectors are out of limits)

2 different garages and 2 different opinions

my indy has suggested terraclean but has said he can't guarantee it will fix the problem

garage that did erg say it won't

i can't afford to replace the injectors so if it is them i will park the car up until i can

its booked in on Friday and i will report back

car is 2007 audi a6 avant 124k on clock 3.0 tdi, car smokes really badly when it has sat on idle for long periods

my indy said its pure diesel thats coming out of exhaust so i hope this terra clean will make a massive difference

will keep you all posted

Hope it will work for the members that are to use this sevice .But i am old stick in the mud .I did hear of a gent that took his car in a 1990 and it cost a lot of cash to get it up and running again .It removes all carbon thats been in there for years .He had to replace injector seals valve seals it just blew them out .

oh no

Got the car back this afternoon.

Emissions test before was 1.10 and test after 1.01 (I think! Paperwork in car) but it was a minute difference even the guy at the garage looked disappointed

In fact the car now starts really rough with a fluctuation on the revs

Then settles Down.

Got some issues to get looked at

But terraclean did not have the effect I was hoped it would.

Thats a deep shame :( dont think i will bother having the Cdi done. Has the smoking eased off?

As above, my testing showed me that it simply did nothing.

Gav...just use 2T semi synth 200ml to 60 litres ...it gets rid of smoke, noise, rattles and also improves mpg and engine smoothness!

Don`t ask me how ?......i just use it all the time and it works for me...but give it a fair chance.
