Terrible experience with a local independent

Mate, don't get bogged down with seeking 'revenge' through a 'legal battle' ....

You won't win , and you will be substantially out of pocket .

These things happen , as others have said, it is an older car and the unforeseen can take place.

TBH if it was that important a trip , i would have waited until after the trip to book the car in , it's been OK until now , a few more days wouldn't have made any difference.

Remember if you should choose to with hold payment that they still have your car ;)

The age of the car is irrelevant, they had no problem removing the tank or finding a repairer.

I will definitely be expecting a first class job for the price and time its taken them.

It couldn't have waited; it was getting worse and the stench of petrol was quite unpleasant.

True, but I have the V5 with my name on it.

And....The garage will have Leon over your car until the account is settled.

You will need to either come to an arrangement or pay in full then recover through small claims court.

A Main Dealer won't give a 19 year old a courtesy car. IME you have to book a month in advance for one as well.
If a main dealer did this to be I'd be expecteding the service managers car or a demonstrator for 24 hours. Not happend too me personally but I know people who have been given a staff members car (complete with stuff in the boot).

you are being unreasonable.. they have had the car a couple of days... its a fairly large job for them and they are relying on a third party which you were aware of before the job was taken on.. give them a couple of days.

If they havent got car back to you by next week, then id be talking about complaining.

The age of the car is not irrelevant at all , as others have tried to explain to you ....

How was it getting worse ? Do you have super acidic petrol ? that will finish the tank off in three days ?

Sorry to say this mate ,but i think you need to get a grip and calm down .

These things happen .... i say again , a few more days wouldn't have made any difference.

Good luck with getting it sorted and i hope you get a first class job.

I wouldn't walk into the workshop ranting and raving though , you never know what might happen ;)

And so would I. But then, I would expect them to be charging up to £100 per hour plus VAT for the repair. I bet this Independent is somewhat more affordable. The OP could have taken it to a main dealer if he/she so wished.

It's interesting that it's got worse recently. The repair can't be assessed in detail until the tank is removed from the vehicle.
What's to say the required repair isn't larger than expected due to more corrosion, thus taking longer to fix.

I say go for suing them..we could do with good laugh.

I didn't know it was a SEAT? But what Dieselman says is true - if you withhold payment they have your car and can charge you storage until you clear the debt. Not sure they actually have a lien over your car and I am not sure they have the right to sell it to recover their debt.

Having the V5 doesnt entitle you to be the legal owner - read the document I think there is somewhere mention the registered keeper is not necessarily the legal owner.

My advice is to put this behind you. Learn that in business one needs to plan for uncertain, unexpected events.

Good luck

I wondered if you meant lien or leon, but decide a big snarling cat draped over the bonnet was probably a bigger disincentive to removal than some weedy piece of legal jargon :D

I've alreaady htanked Crockers for the correction but decided to leave it as he has quoted it anyway.

Thanks anyway.;)

I'm sorry to say that I, too, am with those who think you're being unreasonable.

In terms of planning, you were cutting it extremely fine and really it's not the garage's fault that you have these "important people" to pick up just when your car has developed a serious fault. The planning on your behalf was just not suitable in many respects I'm sorry to say.

However, don't think a main dealer would necessarily have been a better experience. On my previous car, I got both back seatbelts changed as one of them had been damaged by being caught in the door (heavy things those W140 self-closing doors :D) and I wanted both changed to avoid colour differences.

Anyway, off to a Mercedes dealer I went. I told them I needed the car almost 3 weeks (!) later for a trip to Belgium. No problem they said. Cut a long story short, but excuse after excuse meant it wasn't done on time. Rather than allowing me to pick up the car and bringing it back after the trip, they kept telling me it would be done on time up to 2 days before my trip. At that point, I told them that I would just pick the car up and bring it back after the trip. So, the same evening I turn up at the dealer, only to find that the whole back seat, shelf and trim in the back of the car had been stripped out. Undriveable. So, I ask them to put it back the day after so that I can do my trip another day later. They also failed to do this (more organisational ****-ups). I ended up having to rent a bloody Kia for my trip. Yes, they offered me a courtesy car, but it turned out that could not be insured in time for me to take it abroad.

When I then go back after my trip to the continent, there was further aggravation for more than a week before the new seatbelts were finally fitted.

I go and pick the car up, but sit in the back and try the new belts. They didn't work! The clip was a completely different shape than the lock you put it in. It could never work and they obviously hadn't even tried! Two more weeks of waits before it was finally fixed!

That was a main dealer for you. :D I've obviously never set another foot in their premises.

Anyway, I don't think you can blame the garage and I seriously doubt that you'll stand any chance in a court at all. You better hope the garage is not a member here, because they could take your posts to court to show your own words that you're just out to waste everyone's time by seeking revenge .

I'm afraid your age has nothing to do with it, being unreasonable is not the privilege of the young  ;).

How I wish I was 19 again - slim and handsome :D.

Keep digging oh ye that chooses to htank people ;)

But isn't that a lion, not a leon?

I'd be more worried about picking it up if Leon was on the bonnet ... ;)

And forgot to add: you'd have been more likely to get some cooperation from the garage and for them to work with you on a solution by being constructive and friendly. Being belligerent will only get their backs up (and rightfully so in this case).

and they charge you storage charge as well ,
