The EV fact thread

When you say ‘urban EV adoption is a step in the right direction environmentally’ - could you explain how an ICE powered vehicle improves air quality in urban environments?

Quick to mention China again, who seemingly to you are only of concern when discussing the propulsion of vehicles again.
I asked for evidence for your claim that ‘urban EV adoption is a step in the right direction environmentally’. I assume you therefore have no evidence and have just made that claim up. Keep repeating it enough times though and eventually someone will believe it is true despite the lack of any supporting evidence. I made no claims that urban ICE use improves air quality, plant some trees if you want to do that.

You would prefer the PRC's interests in pushing the Wests electric future were kept quiet? I am sure that is the way in China but as i am from the UK i am free to express my opinion on the matter.

Not sure if the ICE fumes have got to you or something but it seems as though you are trying to misquote what I posted. I specifically referred to air quality in environments where humans live and breathe.

I have no interest in discussing politics but just find it strange how you are so quick to mention China repeatedly on this thread whilst subtlety ignoring the fact that they manufacture most of the consumer goods that are used day in, day out globally - but seemingly to you it’s only a problem when discussing EVs or energy. And I suspect you own and use many of these said products which conveniently you don’t wish to admit to.

Provide evidence that EV adoption has improved air quality in environments where humans live and breathe i.e an urban setting. Your claim. Demonstrate it.

You have no interest in discussing EV's are a product of the PRC (politics?), but you choose to discuss it. My position is clear. I am against this sea change. A reasonable position for a Westerner to take as the PRC's EV dominance is not imo in the Wests best interest.

Demanding others provide evidence after misquoting what they post upon your request whilst you avoid acknowledging any questions directed at you…?

Secretly posting from your Chinese manufactured smart phone/PC/tablet connected to your network utilising Chinese manufactured hardware/tech etc which you really don’t want to admit to.

I do value some of your contributions and have nothing personal against you but for an intelligent person you do seem to post some strange things at times :)

This guy makes sensationalist videos for sure, but he is an engineer and the basic point is worth considering. If there's strong demand for EV charging (lots of EVs and/or a busy route and/or cold weather) the ultra rapid top-ups often mentioned as a basic enabler for longer EV trips start to look doubtful. This is from Sweden (where I think EVs have the second highest market share in Europe, behind Norway), but there have been similar scenes in parts of the US. Does anybody know what the grid connection for a Tesla supercharger site in the UK is rated at? Comments about getting less than the advertised (maximum) rate aren't that unusual here, even with the current low levels of demand.

Easier surely just to post some evidence for your claims. No? Demonstrate you are right and show the doubters that the EV transition is leading us to the promised sunlit uplands. Consistently playing the man not the ball when faced by any post agin the EV transition is a disingenuous position to take but each to their own.

Maybe do some bedtime reading on how an internal combustion engine works and come back to me first ;)

Who’s promised ‘sunlit uplands’?

Misquoting, overuse of metaphors, seemingly xenophobic posting and making demands of others?

This is supposed to be a fact thread :)

Exhaust aftertreatment is the system relevant to air quality.

Net zero = sunlit uplands. Evidence required, still waiting for some facts from you...

Xenophobic posts? Feel free to expand on that...

After over a hundred years of development worldwide with the ICE powered motorcar, how well has this worked out?

I didn’t mention net zero, did I?

Still not keen to concede how much stuff you use/own is made in China though :)

Exhaust aftertreatment compromising a DPF and an SCR reduce particulates by 99% and NOx is effectively eliminated. That is the current state of play as dictated by EU standards.

The amount of low value Chinese stuff Amazon et al have imported to date is of no relevance to the West being on the cusp of a flood of loss leader EV's that aim to destroy UK employers like Nissan. Happy for that to happen? Nissan and their suppliers employ a lot of people in the area i live.

So you’re okay with buying Chinese stuff off Amazon but have a problem with Nissan as they’re linked to the area where you live?

Never used Amazon. Yes i have a problem with the social & economic consequences of the PRC flooding the West with their loss leader cars's. A race to the bottom once again.

In the last 6 months Nissan have released 4500 cars on to the UK market at below the manufacturing cost price. Good for me as I leased one at a cheap rate. Not so good for everyone else who bought one, or got one on PCP in the last 3 years as the resale values have dropped like a stone overnight because of it and they are now not worth anywhere near the balloon payment.

Discuss .....

Lets face it the push for Western countries to go green is nothing more than a mechanism for disrupters flogging carbon credits and the PRC to take over the reigns. All to the detriment of our own economy. Net zero madness is the apt term for this nonsense.
How is this coordinated? Is it just a matter of getting all of those people in positions of power and influence on the payroll, or something else?

Why did Nissan set up shop there?

In response to falling demand i would imagine. See Tesla's repeated price cuts over the last 2 years.

Everything 'green' is more expensive than the 'thing ' it seeks to replace. You may have noticed that reality reflected in ever increasing utility bills through your letter box. How is the green transition being financed and by whom is a more pertinent question. Short answer imo is every grifter on the planet is out to make a killing out of the transition to green energy. Musk is doing pretty well flogging carbon credits i am led to believe and in the UK Dale Vince is raking it in flogging overpriced renewable energy.
