The EV fact thread

Appears to be considerable angst from those in favour of battery powered cars on this forum. Could you be suffering from climate anxiety perhaps? Apparently it is a thing.

People jumping up and down (politicians mainly) trying to convince us that getting rid of petroleum vehicles will save the planet blah blah blah.
Which people (politicians mainly) are jumping up and down trying to convince us that getting rid of petroleum vehicles will save the planet?

Can't really blame the young woman for not going to see her parents who now live in Saudi Arabia. She has dreamt up a great reason for for not ever going there .

The environment !! Way to go girl :thumb:

The bloke who works in Belgium but finds it takes too long to visit his family in Scotland without flying ? Erm ..? Not so sure your excuse holds as much water mate.

Speed limits (and all laws and regulations) exist only because pis-taking idiots do.

I tend to ignore them, and drive at speeds which I deem appropriate.
What’s the difference between a p***-taking idiot and ignoring speed limits and driving at speeds which you deem appropriate?

I don’t think it’s anyone who isn’t against EVs that suffers from angst, on the contrary it’s more likely this for those who have an irrational fear of change?

The UK plans to ban ICE passenger cars in 2035. Convincing does not come into it. People are being forced out of ICE's thanks to legally binding net zero targets.

Lets have a referendum on it! I predict the public would say no so that is not going to happen.

Battery powered stuff is not an unknown.

Change should demonstrably be for the betterment of society. Mass adoption of the electric passenger vehicle appears to not meet that criterea on many levels. That is an issue.

Computers were suppose to make life easy - all they did was make us stand in check out lines longer and increased white collar crime putting our very existence in jeopardy.
Are you OK hun?

Of all the uses for “computers” you could have picked - and then dismissed all others - you chose making us stand in check out lines and increasing white collar crime. And not just petty white collar crime, but the kind which puts our very existence in jeopardy. I think there are better uses.

It is if you haven’t tried it :)

I suspect the majority of posters (not all!) who are anti-EV have probably never driven one, let alone lived with one for a decent period of time.

Often people polarise their opinion and stick to it to avoid having to try out/experience any change. I’m not a psychologist but I suspect the psychology behind this is just as relevant as the science behind the form of propulsion and the politics that is attached to this :thumb:

I had no idea that ICE cars will be banned in 2035! I thought it was planned that news cars would no longer be available for sale in the UK.

So who are these people (mainly politicians) that are jumping up and down, etc?

You are correct i have never leased an EV. Why would i want to when i have a diesel car which will last indefinitely thanks to its superb engineering. Thanks Mr Benz!

And when i need to go to urban areas with emissions zones in place why would i not use the public transport that has been in place there for decades?

Where on earth is the need for EV's?

Because i can risk-manage myself?

I'm not even doing the posted speed limit in a lot of cases - weather, traffic, road conditions etc - so while it's the maximum you are lowed to drive, it's not a target.

But if you're really suggesting that any speed over the posted speed limit is inherently unacceptably dangerous at any time, we have opinions about such things as to be unresolvably different.

Every 5 years when my FAC gets renewed, I am being asked about any traffic offence I was convicted off. The connection, as explained to me, is that someone who displays a pattern of disregard to the law will not be granted a firearm permit. I have to say that I agree with this approach. Good luck with your speeding.
Agree. Wholeheartedly.

But here's the thing - anyone who claims to follow all the rules all the time for every reason is either a liar or not smart enough to understand the rules and how to bend them without breaking them.

I've been driving (and riding fastbikes) for 20 years. I've never been convicted of any offence, traffic related or otherwise.

I'll follow the rules mostly for most of the tine, bit certainly not every rule all the time. Why? Because my moral compass doesnt align closely enough.

No I’m not suggesting that, and I’m not sure how you concluded that I might be from the post you quoted.

I bet those p***-taking idiots believe that they can risk manage themselves too, so are there any other differences between you choosing to drive at any speed you decide and a p***-taking idiot doing the same?

No longer for sale or banned. Same difference. ICE cars are made of many seperate components. How long before ICE parts can no longer be bought to keep petrol & diesel cars on the road. Then you have future ICE tax levels and the green premium to consider. All assuming the march to EV's continues of course.

No the politicians are all very quiet on matters Net Zero. Probably not a vote winner even though the UK is now legally obliged.

And that's why we have rules mate. I've never been involved in an accident. I sometimes drive 50t trucks, sometimes a 200hp motorcycle.

We can disagree and that's great, but the fact remains that, I'll drive to a speed I'm comfortable with.

Old granny whos reaction speeds are slow, with bad eyesight and poor spatial awareness in the pouring rain at night would likely be more hazardous at the speed limit that I am 5mph over on a dry summer evening right? Not a guarantee but likely, I'd wager.

Not much is likely to convince me that I'm the devil incarnate for pushing on when the conditions allow, though you are free to vehemently disagree.

Have you ever broke the speed limit?

Like Triggers broom?
No. Old Mercedes OM diesel engines last indefinitely as long as you change the oil every 3,000 miles.

Chinese EV batteries i dare say have built in obsolescence. Who made the battery in your EQE300. Any idea?

I have no idea but then again I had no idea who made the ICE in the 8 previous Mercedes I owned.
