The Great Scottish Grand Tour 2012

I see Nick has visited our thread. Nick, would you like to come on this tour?

Lawrence, the wee villiages along the coast are nice, the town itself is full of junkies, its a vile, nasty nasty place

I am fine with a 2 nighter (or 3,4,5)..
It just seems a shame to be so far north and not visit the furthest point.
I have indeed heard the "JoG" isnt THAT special, but I would like to see it "bid".
Dieselman I do hope you are going to be in attendance.. I dont think I have done a "road trip" with you.. I have a feeling it would be a riot !!:D

The more I read this the more I want to come. Best start saving now for the trip. ( The old girl just loves petrol and the car does too)

As C63 owners are we allowed to come on this trip, do we have to submit an application through Dieselman or should we come in a non-Merc? :thumb:

Do you have access to a diesel with a dodgy paint job?:D

We need at least one C63 on this job to act as "point" to sus out all the radar traps. And flush Scottish Smokie out from his forest track hiding places.

Of course you are welcome, I'll hold your coat whilst you have a "chat" with DM.

It's only Lovejoy wants to meet. I think he wants to sell me an antique clock, or something...

There is a concensus that folk want a two nighter?

This I am very happy about, but in reality it means for those south of the Border to drive up on the Thursday, and tour on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and with a night for those who live down south (everyone bar me and Lawrence) in Glasgow or area Sunday night, and travel on the Monday.

I am more than happy with that, however not everyone will be, and that is the reality of a two night - 3 day tour.

Simon, by all means hit the North coast, but a 3-5 night tour probably won't in reality be practical for the majority of people, so lets discuss a workable tour on this thread, and if you want a long driving holiday in Scotland, we can discuss that ourselves elsewhere on the forum, or by phone or email if you wish to run anything past me.

In 2 nights, I will build a route that will give you the North coast and a workable route back, but please be aware you will have to request at least the Thursday PM, Friday and Monday from your work, and for other people further south than you, that becomes ALL Thursday, Friday and Monday off work.

Folks, please can we have a constructive consensus on how many nights away up North you want, and I will build a route to accomodate. If folk want to go different places and spend the night elsewhere to the route, that is fine, but please make sure you find accomodation etc and as your starting point the next day will differ, you may not be able to meet the rest of the group for Lunch.

Please do, I might suggest meeting in Inverness to pick up with you en route or you could come down to Dumbarton and do the whole one?

3 nighter for me Steve. Ill do the Premier Inn Glasgow way for Fri and Sunday and follow your lead for the Saturday.

Brand new, the Sunday involves a crossing from West to East if you wish to see the Cairgorms, truth be told there are many ways back, all of the brilliant.

I'd like to at this point put a notional date forward for the End of the Summer early Autum, we've got Ian F's fab tour to enjoy early in the year.

I'm going to take the lead and suggest the weekend of 1st/2nd of September.

Just so I'm clear for us Southerners (God I never thought I'd ever say that :D ) it's a 4 nighter?

Thursday = Overnight before start of tour on Friday
Friday = Full day touring, overnight to be arranged
Saturday = Full day touring, overnight to be arranged
Sunday = Full day touring overnight after finish of tour.

Just want to make sure I leave enough clear days in my diary :thumb:

Friday 31 Aug through to Monday 3 September blanked out in my diary as "Scotland"

Edit. Waits for reply to Ian F's post.

Those dates work perfect for me Steve as I leave for India on 7th September and the weekend before it is bank holiday weekend, so I'll just book the whole week off on leave if you go for that date.

I would say the same format as last year:

Friday = Overnight in Dumbarton before start of tour on Saturday
Saurday Full day touring, overnight to be arranged
Sunday = Full day touring overnight in Glasgow after finish of tour

Personally I prefer your option (but I'm a Turbo nutter single bloke with lots of time on my hands ), as it gives us a chance to see everything and do everything, its just seeing whether the others would go for it as it requires a lot more time off work and another day away from home and a fair bit more money to spend.

I'm OK with your Fri/Sat/Sun programme, I was just getting confused with all the posts on overnights  doesn't take much these days :D

Looking forward to it, thanks for arranging :thumb:
