The missing RHD AMG Hammer????

Thank you , and you are yours ....

I've not 'given' anything towards you , i suspect you have read the whole thread , so you will have seen how i was supportive of the car , the Hammers have always been one of my dream cars ....

I don't 'chew' on facts , that is a dreadful Americanism , and no i don't expect you to sit idly by while people tear the car to bits , but to be honest , what was said was one other mans opinion , you may not think that your attitude is confrontational , but others may do .

Anyway , we're off on the wrong foot , i'm interested in the car ( as it is now the only RHD Hammer in the UK ) and would be interested to watch the build progress. You're quite local to me , so perhaps one day i'll see it in person somewhere ;)

Best wishes

H

No worries mate - you can pop round anytime...i am much less agressive in person, honest !

I have read the thread and seen and appreciate your comments fully.

Email me anytime and i will always oblige.

I rely on these forums to further my knowledge and have lots to learn from everyone - indeed the bulk of what i have learnt has been on forums. I like technical discussion but i am passionate about these cars.

cheers and look forward to meeting soon,

talbir

Exactly Nav , ' The Friendly Forum ' ;)

So , the few posts that there are from your pal are straight in , row from the start ....

What more do i have to base my opinion of other than those few posts ?

You've always said what a sound guy he was, so when he pops up jumping in at the deep end like that , what else am i meant to think ?

Anyway , hopefully we can put it behind us , as I would like to watch the re-build of this special car ...

H

Right! Now that's all said and down, Talbir let's see some more pics of the Brabus W126 in your avatar :D

I was annoyed I had to rely on my brother to collect my Carat Duchatelet rear bumper - I was hoping to go there and maybe spy one of the cars on the driveway, but sadly it wasn't to be :(
I'll just have to buy something else off you at some point ;)

Darren

"Here is one more fact to chew on - i was there at the auction in person...i was watching exactly who bid...i know exactly who the second highest bidder was at just under 10k....take 3 guesses....and no prizes !"

If the suggestion is that it was me, then you have got your facts well and truly wrong and if that was not the suggestion, then it doesn't make any difference anyway:cool:

Hi Darren

Yeah, sorry i missed your brother that day... i think my Dad kept him waiting a little as well ! Sorry for that.

Right, here are links to my Brabus w126 500SEL which is the V12 project. Now this car was an ABSOLUTE DOG when i picked her up - body rotten, chassis rots, interior mouldy and smelly...this car had been sitting on the POs front garden rotting for two years....bonnet hinges broken, Rial wheels pitted badly....everything that could be wrong was wrong....except the engine, the series 2 5.0 litre m117...which had been fully rebuilt by Crewe engines and running smoothly ! It had been re-done at a cost of 4k+ according to the invoice on file !!!

But it had the full Series 2 Brabus w126 bodykit, with Boomerang, rear sound board...note the picture of this car in black and white in the first linke...she sits on the ****nal Road in London....absolute beauty.

Now i have had a bare metal respray, all rear panels new, front nearside wing new, new offside front door.....this car needed the full works and has received it....i haven't finished the interior yet and yet to take pics of the exterior which is complete....i will update pics soon. This car will be the full works...Brabus trip computer, BRabus steering, Brabus exhaust, Brabus boot mat are sitting in the car waiting to be fitted up....not to mention the M120 V12 !

cheers

Talbir mate, just curious as to did the 10K you paid for the W124 Hammer include the number plate '1 UKO' that is on the car in the pics?... If so, its become an even better bargain than i first thought, I mean that plates got to be worth a few bob, probably enough to pay for the resto!.. Well done!

Congrats Talbir... I have seen a few of your projects over the years and ive always been very impressed...

This one will be very interesting and im glad its gone to the right person.

There is probably no one in the country that would be better suited to getting this car back to scratch..

Again... Well done!!

Good question - but sadly no, the number plate was put on retention by George Harrison's widow well before the auction. The new number plate, it's original C plate, was assigned today by DVLA.

I'm not sure what it's worth ...i haven't worked out what it represents, probably a few bob to a Beatles or ELO fan if it has a link to them.

But i'm just glad to get the car. The original plate which was on the car at first sale is kinda cool as well.

He didn't mention he had to wait, so I guess he didn't mind. At any rate, it's only my older brother so it doesn't matter

Thanks for posting those links. Are you keeping the leather stock design and colour, or going for a retrim?
I like those headlights. Are they the Panther headlights? And didn't you have the same style on your Stratton 500SEL, IIRC?

thanks mate, i dunno if i'm the best person...you and Nav could do an equally good job....especially with me sidetracked with the Renntech and Brabus V12...oh, and the wife plus 3 kids....

OMG, when will i find time to eat ? I might just leave the Hammer as it is and let the wife use it on the school run. At least the kids will never be late for school !

As one of my good friends said to me today...leave it as it is...patina is everything !

cheers

Yep, leather has been re-conolised in original colour (Palamino) with the single picnic table on the pass seat.

The headlights are brand spanking new US Gen I version items...yep, spot-on, i had the same on the Stratton, but Brabus fitted these on the Gen II w126 cars according to the brochure...so i am doing my best to replicate their take on it.

By they way, im very intrigued by this... Im thinking of doing the 560 conversion in my W123 but i want to retain a manual box, so do keep us updated!!

Will do - but it's some task getting the 6 spd manual onto the m119.

We are now working on all the things that will change now that the transmission will be manual.... transmission, bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, clutch linkage, shifter, timing wheel for crank position sensors, mounts for crank position sensors, driveshaft, driveshaft flange, speed sensor and, transmission mount.

We have acquired : new 6 speed, clutch, flywheel and hydraulic release bearing. These parts may require modification, but a good deal of work will involve the crank position sensors and timing wheel. Another issue may be the need to use a small starter designed for the bellhousing and flywheel in use.

The small uncertainty is the fitment of the transmission into the tunnel...but that can be overcome with some panel beating.....in any case, the m119 sits quite low in the 500E, so this may not even be an issue.

Budget £4 to 5k....this isn't a plug and play...several new issues to address, e.g. starter location, flywheel diameter and crank position sensor / sense rings require study. The M119 and M117 bell housing patterns to block are the same so theoretically, once i get my 6 spd done on the m119, we can replicate the patterns/parts used to do the same for an M117...however, certain things still change as if i recall, the m119 on the 500e has two CPS sensors on the bell housing not one as on the m117.
