The search for G-Wagen has started

G500's still make big money.....one of the last RHD's, a 51 Reg LWB recently sold for £28k! A lot of them get sold to rich Russians living in London...they love them.

Check out here for more G's for sale G : Wagen International Ltd

I had a 280 LWB and it was a great machine, but liked a drink! I ended up selling it to a guy in Hong Kong who saw it advertised on e-bay.

With the right colour a RHD, G500 LWB is top of my wish list.

(Hear that Father Christmas?)

I don't think there is a single one for sale in the UK today!

I spotted that also

The 6.9 was never connected up and he put it back to normal to sell it.

cannot imagine the mpg on that though...

Would / could the engine out of a more modern 320cdi fit?

I t was in and ran-up briefly but had no manifolds plus there was a problem with the brake servo being fouled. All he did to normalise it was cut the engine mounts off. IIRC the clutch plates in the gearbox had been welded up etc. He's an acquaintance of mine.....

Got to this posting late sorry but Jonnyboy has covered most things, the early 300 GD's were slow but were improved with the addition of an aftermarket turbo charger.Steer away from fibreglass wheel arches if fitted, the ones to go for are the rubber ones.
I had a 280 GE too and it drank petrol like there was no tommorrow! If you dont mind a LHD check out the german market here Search Results: Cars on mobile.de

There is a German plated version out here. In the summer the owner takes off the roof, doors and folds the front 'screen flat and it's all painted up in cammo colours.

It looks uber-kool.

Be sure to check the condition of the transfer case(s) in the G500 W463.
Up to and including 2004, the control and the operating mechanisms were prone to failure.

I had this problem with my 2003 G55, fortunately it was still under warranty.

Just traded my 2003 G55 for a Merc certified preowned G55K.
Did a tune and for an almost 3 ton box it is extremely fast !!!! :thumb:

Yum yum :)

There was a G wagen on ebay a while back with a 560 engine in it.. this is still available. Quite a tasty car with recaros in.. only thing that let it down was that it was a 3 seater..

I have the guys contact details should it be something you want to pursue.

:) They drift. HD

P.S. my search is going badly.

It will bearing in mind the abject panic caused by the "severe weather warnings" about those three snowflakes in Ascot at 2pm......

Where are all the 4x4-hating greenies now then? Putting their bicycle snow-chains on....?

Sorry, rant over.

Be patient Howard, it is NOT a descision or choice to rush, trust me !

Why not look at Europe - itll be LHD anyway and a lot more straightforward, less blinged than the Statesiders too.
IIRC the import costs are about a grand, but i'm not sure about tax/duty etc

I've been looking around on the German sites and there are hundreds of G-Wagens for sale. I was trying to work out what would stop me buying one in Germany or Poland; and just driving it back to UK.

But, they still look more expensive than buying from the US, even if I factor in VAT, duty, SVA, registration, MOT, transport and insurance

I don't know if it's because of how weak pound is against Euro, although it's not great against $US either.

That white one just caught my eye. :) I've never had a white car.
