the "two bucket method"

There's a better class of abuse on here compared to the Corsa forum ....

2BM is simple : to stop you rewashing the car with all the muck that you just rinsed into the bucket with the previous wipe.

1x wash
1x rinse

assists from causing swirls and scratches on your paintwork

I don't use any buckets! And I don't get scratches!!

I hear ***'s preferred method is the

0 bucket wash

You may well mock gentlemen, but there's a lot to be said for a little extra care when washing ones P&J. For years I blamed the swirl marks on my 968 on the main dealer that fitted a new sunroof seal, windscreen etc then machine polished the car. In fact, I had probably caused a lot of them myself by washing the car with the traditional yellow cellulose sponge (1 bucket) then drying it with a chamois.

No longer! First rinse off with garden hose, then 2 buckets, merino wash mitt for "above the waist line" and microfibre mitt for "below the waist line" and wheels, dry with microfibre cloths. Microfibre stuff can go in washing machine, merino can't, hence 2 mitts!

Have also invested elbow grease and money in paint correction, swirls almost completely eradicated, 17 year old car looks almost as good as the day she came out of the factory!

I like this thread, particularly the thread (How To Wash Your Car Guide - Mercedes) and intend to by a lambs wool mitt, replace my chamois with microfibre and fancy trying some of the Last Touch Spray, may even get the dirt separator!

Can I get all of this at halfords or best on line?

Halfords selection is pretty poor to be honest. While you can get the basics there is much better stuff available online. I have used Polished Bliss and have had good service and they have the bonus of "free" postage and their prices are good. Be warned though it can get addictive once you start to see the effects of good car care!

Does anyone rate Elite Detailer Ltd - Car Care Detailing Products 3m, Bilt Hamber, Nanolex, Zaino, Valet Pro, as used on 'how to wash your car' thread. They seem to have all the products,

Plus...acid-free cleaner for your alloys.

best things you can do is get rid of any sponges or chamois - Mitt & MF will certainly assist - also invest in some MF Drying towels - this is certainly a good start to help protect.

Elite detailers (Gurcharan Sahota) has figured on BBC etc as THE ultimate car detailer (charges upto £9000)...

his website seems pretty good.

personally i use Car Care | Car Care Products | Car Covers | FREE UK Delivery to order from... and have had no problems.
Ive been looking and comparing Car Care to Elite Detailer and Car Care seem to be significantly more expensive. However, a number of the products i would like to purchase are out of stock at ED.

May I suggest you speak to the guys at Car Care Products | Detailing Products | Free UK Delivery

I heard of them through their detailing threads on Scoobynet when I had my last Impreza. Just bought a load of stuff from them again and they do free delivery now as well.

I'm quite **** with cleaning my pride and joy, but not OTT :thumb:

Two bucket method BUT .......put a small amount of car wash such as Chemical guys Maxi Suds as the dirt washed off in the 'rinse bucket' will be trapped away from the microfibre wash mitt or the 'WOOKIE mitt', than with plain water. Then its into the good bucket (compete with GRIT GUARD) to load up on the washing water and suds!

Depends what you want from your paintwork. Myself...I have a deep glossy silky black swirless paintwork on the CL so its always UBERCARE time with washing, but taking care with a good wash mitt like a wookie and some good wash concentrate and at least a grit guard if you insist on single bucket... will certainly not be nearly as damaging as a standard wash method...
