Top Gear value for money TV?

Up to a certain point piracy is free advertising. Beyond a certain point it cripples DVD sales. Given that it is one of the only active British exports then it is worth protecting.
Ah yes, I guess you are talking about tangible exports like machinery, car production, sheep and mining.
UK got out of such 'legacy' businesses a long time ago. They require vast amounts of capital, result in narrow profit margins and are highly susceptible to recession and currency fluctuations.
UK on the other hand has moved into the new age and is driven by intangible industries such as Finance and to a lesser extent software production. these again are not recession proof. The cost of doing this was high, with wholesale shutting down of industries, widesacae job losses and severe social disruption for those involved. Nevertheless the worst pain is now over and UK is steadily growing again.

For those of us in Europe, the TV satellite footprint covers many of us. Legally though we are not allowed to receive - but I am told that some people do.
Now within Europe there are many working Brits, not least in the EU. We are encouraged to be mobile and flexible with our labour yet we are prevented from keeping such relatively innocent links with home. There is no mechanism for us to pay. Sky refuse payments and connections to Europe.
This is one of the many inconsistencies to be ironed out within the Union. I like many am prepared to pay but it seems that there are unending obstacles.

Secondly
I cannot stand Clarkson but I watch the programme as I find it entertaining. I particularly enjoyed seeing his come uppance at the petrol station. Note that Clarkson was the first to run away leaving Hammond to go to the rescue of May with his flat battery. Well done Hammond. A cowardly act Clarkson.

Thirdly
Clarkson with his well known British xenophobia seemingly chose to present America in the worst possible light. I just checked the New Orleans Times Picayne News and found 120 cars under $1000. In my experience you would be able to buy some excellent cars for that price. So it was either staged or Clarkson is not very smart.

Thirdly.
Learn how to spell Clarkson. Hilary as in Clinton is not HILLARY.

Top Gear is sold overseas. That raises revenue for the BBC. Any recording and publishing on the internet will allow it to be seen in non UK territories thus potentially depriving the BBC of reveune from overseas sales. On top of which is the copyright of the program. There is your piracy.

Or because this is a victimless crime are we now all in favour of it? One one part of this BBS we have cries for vigilante violence against certain criminal's, yet here we not only endorse crime we champion it.

This has always been one thing about this forum i have never understood. Maybe i am too simple to see the subtleties and differences here.

How about, 'Learn how to spell Hilary, Mr. Clarkson.' Although it was possibly not him who had written it as HILLARY on the side of the Cadillac. As in 'Hillary for President' - This was spelling worthy of those, out of whom, he was trying to extract the Michael.

You won't be downloading any more episodes of Lost then Scott ;)

Not at all:

Sorry, maybe I am too simple to see the subtleties, as I think I missed something too. Who's endorsing and championing it?

This isn't really victimless is it. Many of the members of this forum will either pay a little more TV licence fee each year, or receive slightly lower quality programming, as a result of lost revenue. Just because the effects may not be perceptible, it doesn't mean that there's no victim.

Clarkson et al bought the cars in Miami, and SOLD them in New Orleans.

I used that newspaper as it is in my favourites but if you want to be precise The Miami Herald lists 895 cars for $1000 or less within 30 miles of Miami.
Here is the first one on the list;
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detai...rald&paId=220712110&recnum=0&leadExists=false

So I guess it would be possible to visit the US and buy a decent car for under $1000 that would be quite usable and you would meet a lot of helpful, friendly, people, stay in excellent accommodation and probaly have a good time in what is one of the most value for money countries in the world.
Sorry but Clarkson's bigotry and seeming dislike of all foreigners is based more on his own ignorance of other countries and wish to perpetuate xenophobic myths.
I also repeat his behaviour at the petrol station was nothing less than cowardly in leaving Hammond and Mays to fix the car while he escaped.

How would it sound if he said that he liked America. It was like some kind of Automotive Borat if you ask me !

Good summing up.
I shall bow out at this point as this is now going nowhere.

:D For crikeys sake Bonzo, it was all staged. It was comedy designed to appeal to the majority. Hasn't it clicked yet that everything was set-up, the cars, (one Cadillac, one muscle car and one pick-up truck) the writing on them and then the filling station? I am positive researchers were asked to find the most offensive words that would get a reaction from a very specific filling station manned by this very volatile owner. I should imagine the insurance company demanded Clarkson et al, were removed from the scene as quickly as possible. Top Gear is renowned for being anti political correctness, they encourage complaints simply to get viewing numbers up.

Hopefully no one is getting on at you, we all respect you, but your criticising a comedy by thinking it was real.

As far as I was aware the cars were not SOLD in New Orleans, they were given away, and again as part of the comedy we are told 'someone' tried to sue Clarkson for misrepresentation of a gift! Again good comedy taking the mickey out of the alleged US litigation culture.

It was ALL make believe.

Take care and please don't watch it if you don't like it, :) think of your blood pressure :o :D

Regards,
John

I said I wouldn't get drawn but yes it was funny but if you can't use a mobile phone or shaver in the car, I suspect that a shower is also contrary to the rules.

All I can say is: cue the next 100+ post thread after this week's show :D ( )...
