Yes Alfie, I have the same in my car, but I would find it very hard to navigate through a town without a glance at the map showing the next junction layout. The lovely lady does tell you where to go but having and using both is so much easier. Try covering the comand screen and then drive to an unfamiliar destination by sound alone, then say if it would have been easier if a map was visible as well.
I am sitting on the fence with this topic as I am only a back seat driver
Liguatronic is a brilliant option and well worth the expense.
PLEASE do not get me wrong but that glance down at ANY navigation system is a gamble. If the road was clear and there were no hazards then we could suggest that glance is perfectly acceptable but we all know that when we need the system most is when the area is congested and the streets close to each other.
On our stretched limo, I operate the navigation system and replace the voice of the 'nice lady' but I am in the back of the vehicle and not driving
These systems are invaluable, they save normous amounts of time, but the sooner we get a
Heads
Up
Display the better. It will still be a very, very slight distraction, but nothing compared to looking down at our current systems.
COMAND is far more than just navigation, but yes it does require the driver to look down at it so........ When driving do not look down unless we are certain it is safe to do so
I am taking this stance not because I am an olde grouch, or pro police, I am taking it because I have witnessed first hand lots of death, destruction, pain and suffering... None of which is worth saving five or ten minutes of time.
I have NEVER been a police traffic officer, never wanted to be a traffic officer and I feel that most of these folks are more like school teachers that admonish children that misbehave
Road users are not criminals and weshould be treated with some degree of respect UNLESS we treat our school teachers with disrespect, then and only then do I stick up for those that are paid to protect us.
