2011 CLC 220cdi 2004 CLK 320 cabriolet, R230 SL500, A class Sport AMG now arrived.
The Comand in my 2004 CLK320 is running the original satnav discs so is now pretty out of date.
I have just tried in it a 2009/10 UK/Ireland DX disc from a travelpilot. It is a Blaupunkt DX CD-Rom and I rather hoped it would work.
Yes you guessed it - it didn't !
It seemed to load up the software in the same way as the 2004 disc but after that it said there was no disc present.
Am I doomed to either 2004 mapping or an update disc from MB at a cost of more than my Tomtom (which is infinitely better and more user friendly than Comand satnav) ?
Or is there a simple remedy that will make the new disc readable ?
Richard

I would clean your laser - early COMAND has a "not very strong" laser so badly affected by copied disks or dirty lasers.

Get a CD cleaning kit, one that has brushes on the cleaning disk and cleaning fluid. Use *tiny* amount of cleaning fluid, and run a few times

Your system should certainly be happy with the disk that npuk has linked to above - there are the genuine MB versions there too (mapping data is identical, both made by Teleatlas, MB version has TMC and travelguide, Teleatlas version is much cheaper and has a disk of the major roads of western Europe instead)

Richard

Thanks guys I will find my cd cleaning disc and give it a go.
Richard

Hmmm ....ran a cleaner disc but that didn't solve the problem.
The software appears to load - the bars move across the screen and get to 100% but then I get a no navi cd message.
I now wonder if the disc is the problem ?
Richard is it something you can test for a fee ?
Richard

To be honest I don't know. It looks to have a properly printed side and it goes through the loading process, but it was only £20 on Gumtree.
As it was so cheap I took a chance but I don't want to spend ages trying to sort something I should possibly throw away.
Is there a way of checking on PC to see if it is genuine ?
Richard

What colour is underside of the disc? ( the non printed side)
If its not silver ( mirror) ie if its light blue or green then I think you've bought a copy.

Can you see where the data recording stops on the underside of the disk? If yes, then its a copy.

If you are unsure, email a hires photo of the data side to me at [email protected]

copied/fake disks are bad bad news for comand systems.

Thanks Alfie I will take hi res pics and e mail them to you.
I really appreciate your trying to help ...... Now if you can fix my non syncing clock problem ......
Richard

Hugh I will look at the disc colour tomorrow in daylight - thanks.
Richard

What is your non syncing clock problem ?

R

The time on comand is correct but the analogue clock in the cluster is 12 minutes slow. No matter what time I set the comand time to the analogue clock whirs round to 12 mins less !
While trying to sort it I was able to set comand to 12 minutes fast so the analogue clock was right but as soon as comand reset from satellites the 12 min gap reappeared.
As the analogue clock seems to draw it's time from comand I assume that clock isn't faulty.
I am stumped !
Nice of you to ask ..... Any thoughts ?
Richard

Hmmm Back to the Future, are you sure you've not got a De Lorean :D

Updating Cd

I had a similar problem with mine i had it serviced at Car audio technics in Brentwood and it cured the problem i had tried the cleaning disc etc but they did not work, they seem to know what they are talking about.
