Hi Everyone,

Please can someone help advise me urgently! I'm on a ferry and been told my car alarm must be switched off for the journey as the motion can cause alarms to trigger. However my boot lock is not working manually with the key!!! Great time to find that out! Worked fine last year! It won't turn and i'm scared to break it. I obviously don't want to leave my boot unlocked as anyone could potentially help themselves to all my possessions on the journey!

Any help or advice greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards

Clare

p.s sorry just noticed I posted in the wrong area - sorry, that'll teach me to be hasty in my panic!

There is usually a switch on the dashboard to disable the interior movement sensor or the motion sensor, your handbook should show this but it may have a symbol like a tow truck on it for disabling the motion sensor.

Hi,

Yes it says that in my manual - however I do not have that button on my dash! :wallbash:

Dunno why - they must have skipped that for my car

Any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot

Clare

What car is it? Isn't there a button near the reading lights on the roof lining at the front?

Try locking the car with the metal key and not the remote?

Hi,

Thanks for all the helpful replies much appreciated.

I am trying to lock the car manually but the boot lock wont turn and i'm afraid to break the key. If i use the remote it sets the alarm.

It is a 98 SLK R170. There is no button on the roof either :(

Still stumped :(

Thanks

Clare

Sorry meant to say that when locking the drivers door with the key it doesn't auto lock any of the other locks - should it?

Took my S204 on the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin and back in April, no mention of turning the alarm off, I just locked the car normally on both trips - and the return trip was quite rough (3 1/2 hours on the slow ferry coming back!). Had no problems either way.

why don't you just tell the powers to be that you don't know how to turn off the alarm ? that's what I would do , if you don't know how to then I hardly think they will say you cant travel on the ferry ? after all its hardly your fault if you don't know is it?
if it goes off it goes off

I never turn mine off either just lock it with the fob as usual never had any problems and I probably do a ferry journey 12 - 20 times a year :thumb:

yep as above or just tell em you have turned it off , if it goes off mid channel there hardly going to turn the ferry round and offload you?

Thanks everyone, we have done exactly that locked normally with remote, a member of staff kindly took us back to car deck to check, as I heard a car alarm and was worried it would be mine, it's wasn't, I was concerned as it is a 24 hour trip that my battery would go flat! But all ok - maybe my car doesn't have motion sensors ??

Anyway thanks again :)
