one of my French mate has been contacted to buy his car and as usual the buyer wants to give more money etc...We have an e-mail address and mobile number (it rings). Does anybody know what else we can ask of the buyer that will help identifying him before reporting him to the police ?

Leave well enough alone. They can get your phone number and location by being the highest bidder.

Police generally are not interested in this kind of crime - too many borders to cross etc.
