Uxbridge: Wheel Theft

Wack a B&Q CCTV up today. As good as any home units and easy to fit.
Chances are they were stolen by a 'friend' or someone who knew they were there. Sad but true.

If it was opportunist and they got away with it then statistically there's a 60% chance they'll return to try and steal again.

It would have just been pikeys, they can stiff out scrap at 100yards.

Moral of story is to not leave stuff around.

At least it sounds like the wheels were scrap and the tyres bald, so the starving African orphens are not missing out by not getting them.

Sorry to hear about your wheels. I'm not sure exactly what part of Uxbridge you're in, but I'm near the industrial estate and regularly see pikeys touring the neighbourhood and any yards that aren't locked. I parked an old fluorescent fitting next to our front door - came out an hour later to put it in my car and it had gone! if you don't want to lose it, you gotta lock it!

BTW - if you need somewhere to store those other 4 wheels, PM me.

Just a quick update. Thanks for all the comments!

Went to the police station today, and reported the crime. The lady wasn't very helpful, but she did say that "metal thefts" have been increasing a lot in the area (didn't even realise you could resell alloy! I would have thought that scrappies only bought "pure" metals).

I ended up buying a large length of chain, and locking the 4 remaing wheels to my motorbike's ground anchor... for the moment, that should do. I'd like to think that I would wake up if someone came and started fiddling with that!

I may be going to HK next week, so I'm thinking of buying a 8-camera cctv setup there, looks like I can get the lot with 1/3" sony CCD sensors for £300-ish... In the meantime everything in the front, back and sides of the house is locked down.

What didn't inspire confidence is that at the police station there were 2x A3 pieces of paper, each with about 25-30 pictures on them of suspects from CCTV camera's that they were trying to identify...

No wall/fence or gate can be higher than 6ft without planning permission.
Or get a dog....

Before getting the place surrounded by a blastfence, covered in cameras, razorwire etc and before investing in the killer guard dogs, it might be better to assume it was a one off caused by a combination of theiving pikeys and leaving £75 worth of scrap aluminum in your front garden.

While I'm hoping it is a one-off... we did have an attempted burglary a few years ago (I woke up and chased them out the kitchen door) and our nehibors got burglared...

I've wanted a dog for years but...
a- I work 10-12 hours a day, so it wouldn't be fair on the dog to be alone that long
b- I would need a much higher wall to stop him jumping out

Razor-wire... now there's a good idea! Preferrably electrified :P (kidding... but I am getting CCTV, I want to know exactly who steps on my property!)

And they weren't visible from the road, that's what really worries me. It isn't the theft itself, its the fact that someone went into my property looking for something to nick....

Think it is 2.0m or 1.0m abutting a public highway before you need planning permission.

When I built my fence at the front of the house I was told up to 1m doesn't require permission, much to my next door neighbours annoyance. :D

BTW Maplin are pretty good for CCTV systems & components and usually have some on special offer each month.

A quick update... got home tonight to find a few police cars in front of my nehibors house and my housemate chatting to the coppers...

Apparently, our nehibors house was broken into (he has a very large engined black CLS amongst other cars - absolutely stunning) just as my housemate got home. He saw the scumbags run away, jump into a car and drive off... and had the presence of mind to take down the license plate number!

I'm assuming the car is stolen... but he did spend a good 30 minutes describing the guys and the car; so hopefully they'll catch the w*nkers!
