W124 230E Oil type....? Any Help ?

works for me..
Not much info on my w124 though:S

Guys shall i go for 5W-40 a heavier oil then or 10W-40 a lighter oil

As far as I understand it, the second number of 40 is the 'weight' of the oil. In your selection - both the same,,, so neither is lighter or heavier.
The first number is the cold start temperature. From cold, it takes oil (& engine) a few miles/running to get to its optimum operating temp. Its at this cold state, where you need as much protection as poss. A number 5w gets to a better protection rating at a lower temp, than say a 10 or 15w.
If the two quoted are your options, personally, i'd go for the 5w-40,,,, as long as it has the MB approval number for your vehicle !

:D shall i ask an MB dealer as well ?

lol:D too old i guess but (my opinion) better built than newer models...

I think trick oils (Mobil 1, etc) and super-frequent oil changes are almost entirely pointless on a nineteen-year-old car

I'd use a semi-synth that meets the spec in the handbook and change it as per the MB schedule (6k for early cars, 9k for later ones)

I'd then spend the balance of the "trick oil" budget on the balljoints, bushes, engine mounts & etc that frequently need doing on W124s
