W124 Boot lock

I need a new boot lock and key for my '96 124 cabriolet and there are conflicting views as to what I can make do with. I was given one lock from an older coupe but it seems to have been incompatible with the electronic unit (containing 2 micro sensors)that the lock is connected to and this has triggered other problems with the central locking system.
Any thoughts please?
