What sort of fuel consumption should I expect from a automatic W124 E220 estate driven mainly in the suburbs in light traffic? I've just acquired a 1994 model and its nice to know if its performing as expected.

you should expect anything from 37mpg on long run up to 24,5 mpg on heavy city driving. that's MB's data.

Thanks for that, I'd be happy with 24mpg for city driving, our 1.6 Picasso only gets 31mpg.

Hi, I've had and an auto E220, you should get low 20's in town, and about 30 - 35 on a run depending on how much clobber you carry.

Thanks CCAALLVVIINN, so far I'm at 134 miles and down to just under three quarters full, so looking good so far but mostly motorway driving so I expect it to dip on my commute into the city centre this week.

Once you get down to a quarter you will probably find the gauge goes into free fall. Mine does.
