This car looks like a top buy. Apart from the high price, can't understand why it hasn't sold. It must have been on PH for 4 or 5 months at least. The adverts alone must be costing a fortune!

Any members been to see it?

Exclusive Classic Cars Ltd : MERCEDES S500 LWB - 1997

..although if you look at his website, this actually looks like good value compared to some of the others - Ford Escort cab from 1984 for £3k!

Try 2 years.

It was sold from Barons in April 2008 if I recall correctly for £4400.

I made enquiries about it many cars ago and did not get a response that would motivate me to go to see it.

Wrong wheels by the way - there are a few about with these CL wheels and you get the "AMG limited edition" nonsense wheeled out 'bada boom'.

Err, because its far too expensive. I've seen similar mileage ones stuck on Ebay and AutoTrader for several weeks/months for a £1-£2k lower than the asking price of this.

Lets face it W140s are hardly the most in demand version of the S Class. What they paid at Barons is about whats it worth, if not slightly less now because of the price of petrol.

I thought those wheels were an option on the W140 as well as the CL version. I see quite a few saloons with those wheels.

Those wheels look very similar to those fitted to the S600's. Factory option perhaps?!

To the best of my knowledge, and all the material I have on the C140/W140's, those alloys were solely for the CL (series 2) being the one with parking sensors and released in late 1996.

Apart from being pitched at price more in keeping the next version which looks much fresher and the market for 13 year old LWB S500's being just a tad thin at present, perhaps because people do not know what a LUXARY CAR is and are having a bit of struggle with the concept of PURE LUXUARY.

It does matter.

There are postives and negatives to each of the W140 and W220 with the W220 feeling a lot 'lighter' and less 'vault like' than the W140.

That being said, I finally gave the W220 a decent drive by myself and I have to say, it has really impressed me in terms of feedback - a lot more direct, a lot more 'pointed' and able to carry a lot more speed into bends with confidence. Whether this is due solely to the all singing all dancing ABC suspension witchcraft in mine, I don't know, but it is more of a drivers car.

The W220 prices have fallen hugely in the last 12 months and represent massive value.

That price is almost funny. Its a V8 (in these times of high fuel prices) put into the (arguably) most undesirable S-class shape ever.
