For the last few days, my radio reception has been awful with lots of crackles and static. My wife tells me this morning that the rear demister has stopped working.

I'm wondering if the two are related?

Any thoughts before I delve in waving spanners.

Most likely the rear screen connectors have been damaged/dislodged. The rear screen is also the Aerial on facelift W202s

Sounds like the rear fuse box has blown a fuse, relay or curcuit board.

Needs to be error checked.

Hi,
If you look behind the rear drivers side "C" piller trim you will find the aeriel amplifier, and i believe the window heater connections are there also. The trim is a bit of a cow to remove and could be easily broken so be careful. If you would like a work sheet on how exactly it is removed drop me an e-mail.

Thanks. PM sent.

I just drove the car and now the rear demister is working, but the heater fan motor has now stopped working. Looks like I'm going to be busy...

:(

Regarding fan motor removal heres a "HOW TO" on its removal,
http://202tech.mkosonen.com/howto/blower.html
Check the condition of the motor brushes, new ones can sometimes be bought from E-bay, if the brushes are ok, try the regulator another common fault.
While its apart take the opportunity to change the pollen filter, less than £20, and often gets missed.
Hope this of some help

Yes, found that. Not looking forward to this job - on my last car heater fan was complete dashboard out job.

Thanks. I've got access to various brushes and am used to carving new ones out from larger ones.

My C43's radio reception is not great either, does that mean changing the aeriel amplifier will slove the promlem?

The radio reception on my 43 is pretty good, it might be worth swapping units over with someone else to see if it makes any difference, should be common with all face lift 202's, but removing that "C" piller trim is a bit of a cow.
Also I believe if its only bad reception there may well be a suppressor on the power supply for the heated rear window, but if the radio interference is there all the time, (not just with the heated rear window on) it won,t be that.
It may help to put an additional earth strap on the rear window heating element.

and now my heater fan is working perfectly and so it the rear window demister. Radio reception still poor though.

Have you taken the "C" pillar trim off yet ?
