W202 has not much power when engine cooling fan comes on. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have a battery/supply voltage problem. When the fan comes on the extra current drain/earth leakage is dropping the vehicle 12volt supply down such that things start to malfunction or the vehicle is going into limp home mode? Any warning lights on the dash?? N.B check all the warning lights are lighting up when you first switch on the ignition before going out on engine start.

Thanks for your reply.

All lights do light up before engine start. When the fan comes on, no lights light up to warn me of anything.

It seems like limp mode when I start from a stand-still then power kicks in. Sometimes it stalls the car.

Does this help?

Paul :)

I came into this thread late as usual so didn't read all the prior posts.:o It would seem several other folks share my thoughts and have made good suggestions.:thumb: The other thing to check is the engine earthing strap which can be making poor contact with the body/return to the earth side of the battery.

So will I be able to see this in the boot when I open it and look at the battery? :)

Nope it will be under the car between chassis and the engine bellhousing item 47 or similar here Êàòàëîã
There will be an earth strap between the body and the battery in the boot which is worth checking as are both+ and - battery terminals but these are unlikely to be the source of your problem.

Thanks for your advice.

I'll take it to a mechanic to have a look at as I daren't look myself as I have no idea!

Thanks again though :)

Just to let you all know, I finally took it to a MB independent and it was the MAF sensor!!!

It cost me 200 quid to get it sorted! A lot of money I think but they had to clear the codes apparently and it should be good then - so they say! It's being repaired as I type lol!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this threat :-)

I appreciate all your help you have given :-)

Paul :-)
