W202 ICE advice needed

Thanks for all your input.

Is looks to me like I need to do the following.

1, Mount the speakers in the front doors in MDF.

2, Remove the rear speakers and fit a box in the boot. How about these?

Ivanhoe do some sound deadening stuff thats pretty good, do the speaker area on the front door, boot lid and spare tyre well.

as for the stuff you have linked to , infinity do some good stuff but i havent heard any of it, try popping down to a halfords or your local car audio place and take a listen, even get some reccomendations (from the audio place not halfords ), an then see what deals you can find on the net.

I would go for a good quality 12" sub in a sealed enclosure (so it doesnt take up too much room and not too bassy, more of a punchy bass.

I am really showing my ignorance here:o

Is bass high frequency or low?

Bass frequency is low. Usual speaker range (for co-axials or components) is 50hz-20khz (ish) - the full range is fed to crossovers (eg for components) which splits the frequencies & sends higher range to tweeters and the rest to mid/bass cone.
3-way co-axials usually have a built in crossover, components (ie seperate tweeters) usually have seperate crossovers

PS. i wouldnt bother with adaptor plates/mdf/soundproofing until they are wired correctly

agree with rob, get the gear, get it working, get it sounding right, then work on the rattling panels ;)

I have made progress.

I have set up the front & rear speakers so that they only get mid & High range. There is no bass but great clarity and no distortion even at high volume.

The rear shelf speakers have been removed and I have ended up with a 12" sub in the boot (I know I said I didn't want to do this...:o )

The sound is now amazing, great bass, nice warm sound in the car and no distortion even if I turn it up till my head hurts:eek:

Thanks everyone for your help.
