I have just bougt a 1998 C250TD Sport, and the one touch staring does not work with either key, so The questions that spring to mind are: Do Sport models have this feature? and if so Does anyone have any ideas what may have failed, there appears to be nothing by way of a wiring diagram for this in the Haynes Manual

Does it have the triangular shaped key or the rectangular key?

Sounds like a possible fault in the igniton barrel.

PS How do you rate the C250 compared with the C220 in terms of performance/economy?

It has the triangular shaped key, the same as the other C250TD (elegance) I have, they are both Auto's

I think that the C220 was a little quicker, and a lot better on fuel (40 v 50mpg), the problem was it was so badly made, there were always parts wearing out, and it got to 125K miles and I didnt fancy the £1000 for a new set of injectors if they failed. In its lifetime it had: A Turbo, a Cat, an alternator, a steering rack, two lower track control arms, a water pump, 2 sets of turbo hoses, an intercooler, 3 MAP sensors, 2 MAF sensors, complete set of Diesel hoses, 4 sets roll bar links and rubbers and a radio aerial amp

Thats alot of failures!! I know the 220 is better on fuel, but i test drove a few but thought the mid range grunt was lacking on the 220.

Just had a look at the book figures, the 250 is 0.8s quicker. I think its due to the fact there is a lag in power on the C250, whch is less on the C220.

I had my C250 decatted and auperchipped. I can recommend having it chipped, its better on fuel and signficantly faster!

FWIW my one-touch key has no blade as it's a software key (used to be called a dongle in computer parlance). If it has a blade it isn't one-touch and if it does it is imo. Don't know about manual gearbox setup but it would make sense unless there's a brake pedal interlock on it too as in the auto system.

Hi Harley Man,

My 1999 220 cdi is a sport automatic and the one touch starting works fine.

incidentally, the radio amp may have given up the ghost on my car too. Do you remember how much you paid for yours?

Wez.
