My 1994 C180 Rear Seat Head Rests won't go down. The switch on the dash makes a click sound when pressed but nothing happens to the Head Rests. Can someone guide me on this? Thanks.

Hi im having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM with my W202 1997 C180, I didnt bother making a thread as i dont ever use the feature but like if anyone has a solution would be great

ive tryed holding the switch down also still not working has anyone else ever had this problem ?

No doubt you have tried this, but it only works with the engine on.

Assuming them to be the normal Vaccum/pressure operated ones then check the air lines and pump are ok.
Is this feature covered by a fuse if so check that.

does anyone know which fuse it is for the rear headrests or can someone please post a scan or image of there fuse index page from there W202 manual because i cant seem to find mine

seems surprising checked the fuses and nonne are fused whats causing them not to go down ??

On my 97 W202 I only have to touch the button and they drop immediately. I don't have to hold it at all.

Vacuum pipe is the probable cause.

If you can get someone to hold the switch, at the same time stick your head under the back shelf from the boot area, and listen for a hissing sound. If you cant hear anything it might be the switch side (or fuse) if you can hear hissing, cee if you can see a loose vacuum tube.

I used to have to hold the button for quite a few seconds before they would eventually drop. (W202 C200 Elegance)

Thats normal for it not to do it instantly.

Edit: Just noticed this thread is like 6months old..

I actually have the same problem in my car - I pressed it once wondering what it did when I got the car, and they dropped just fine - after resetting them upright again, it just clicks all the time with no dropping :(

I must learn to keep my mouth shut :D come back to it later :)

Haha :D I'll have a muck about with mine tomorrow, see if I can un-stick them

Well, took a second look at mine today. I held the button and a couple of seconds later both headrests duly dropped :D Looks like I just wasn't holding the button long enough ;)

Just got my 96 E320 a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't get the the rear headrest to go down. Under the back seat next to the battery is a electric vacuum pump that operates the door locks, trunk release, gas door and the back seat headrest. I noticed that with or without the motor running the pump was not running when I held the button down. So until I can get a fuse diagram I traced the vacuum line (A white one) disconnected it at the pump and attached a hand held pump I use for bleeding brakes and gave it a few pumps and down the went. It's the best I could do until I can figure out the electrical end of it but at least I can see out the back window now.
