the SRS light on the instrument panel stays on at all times. this has been happening ever since i removed the instrument panel for cleaning and reinstalled it. before this the light would switch off after the engine started up. i have checked all the connections on the backside of the instrument panel and all is well. so what could it be?

Time for a trip to someone who can fault read it and reset the srs light.

Otherwise you may find that in a crash your airbags won't activate...

Did you inadvertently turn the ignition on whilst it was disconnected?
If you did then the system will think something has gone wrong; assuming it is the same as my W203.

I think all you can do is take it to your dealer who will plug it into the diagnostics to check everything is OK and then reset it.

If all the other connections are fine,

Check the yellow connector under the passenger seat, mine is always getting knocked out.

where is the yellow connector located under the passenger seat? is it under the floor carpet? i feel it could be the connector because i removed the seats to shampoo the carpet at about the same time that i was tinkering with the instrument panel.

Underneath the seat, attached to the seat frame you should see a handful of connector holes with a yellow clip in one of them.

Pull out the connector & you most likely will have a loose wire coming from it, if so prise open the yellow clip & insert it back.

Hope this helps.
