w203 - 54 plate KM to MPH

its on the settings, easy to change but you have to do it when stationary... have you got the manual?

You can't change it - it's fixed as MB believe that UK law for some wierd reason requires that KPH is visible at the same time as MPH.

It can be changed by someone who has a Star Diagnose machine, but the dealers generally won't to it.

I'm not sure about this, but I don't think it can be changed to MPH at all - the alternative to displaying KPH is that it shows the outside temp.

Wrong!

It can be changed it's in the Settings! I can change mine!:)

You can change it in settings where the dial is marked in both miles and kph

Perhaps we're talking about different things - I made the assumption that the OP was asking the common question about the permanent KPH display that appears on the facelift W203 in place of the outside temp.

I've got one of those cars, and it can't be changed.

If he's talking about something else, then fair enough.

your car must be one of the first ones pre the late 2002/2003 midlife facelift

Mine could be described as such because it's one of the last pre-facelifts, but the dial is in MPH only, and sadly there is no option to change:
  • the small digit read out on the digital display to mph instead of KMH, or
  • show the speed in MPH in large digits.

Reminds me of the W203 air con upgrade where there seems no rhyme nor reason behind which of two replacement parts will work.

Mine cant be changed - pity as unless i am in europe i would prefer outside temp to be displayed

does anybody know of a dealer who has done this?

In the handbook it says all cars can change between KPH and outside temp - except UK cars:mad:

My other car is an Audi and there are loads of setting changes that friendly dealers can perform in addition to the standard car settings.

Its my first Merc and its very annoying that i cant at leat turn it off.

You need a star machine and someone who knowswhat they are doing. Apologies for the photos but they will give you idea.
The top photo shows outside temp selected instead of kph. I tend to leave it this way.
The next one shows the menu added to fold my mirrors on locking.
The bottom one adds the convienience menu.

The next photo shows the Status line display that enables kph/temp/c/f
The last one shows speed but in mph!

At the same time I had auto cornering lights enabled, and bleeps on locking the car. (Set rear sam to Holland!)
I have also had Tyre pressure monitoriing enabled but I dont appear to have a photo at the moment!

I had the same issue with my '03 W203. It cannot be changed via the car settings. Yet my son's Y reg C220 can.

I was led to believe earlier this year by MB that current C220s' can be changed via the car. Something to do with prevailing legislation at those particular times and software installed at the time. All cars must show speed in both km and mph.

Whether or not a dealer can change it via a Star machine I don't know.

Er yes they can. See above!

Doesn't it have to be a modified (or with certain passwords), plus a mechanic who knows what he's doing? I was under the impression that the big problem getting dealers to do stuff like this is that standard Star Diagnose doesn't know about non-standard stuff.

Can you tell me how you got your mirrors to fold automatically upon locking - that is a cool one -- and I would like to do that as it makes so much sense - I assume that when you unlock the car they automatically unfold or do you have to press the button to do that?

What does it cost to have a dealer do that for you?

Cheers:rock:

Steve our friendly south east mechanic did mine. ....and yes the mirroes unfold on opening the door.
