I've had my w203 C200 CDI since March now and have clocked up 14k miles. I haven't reset the trip and my average fuel consumption is around 36mpg.

It's not what I was expecting, I thought I would be quite well into the 40's..

Most of my driving is on motorways, and I cruise at around 85, I will admit I like to drive it hard on the A and B roads (and it does handle nicely round the corners ;) ) but I would still have expected better MPG.

I have tried on a long run (Harrogate to Swansea and back in a day) to keep the aircon off, tried sport and comfort mode, and I use cruise extensively, but the best I have been able to acheive on a run like that is 40.something.

How does my MPG compare to your w203 C200 CDI ?

C200CDi don't seem to be as economical as C220CDi.

I've only driven a 200 for a few days but only managed 32mpg.

things going againsed it...

Its EU4 which means its less economical
Its got big wheels on it
Its automatic.

try driving a bit slower on the motorway than 85 ..

What's EU4 ?

What's EU4 ?

Its new emmisions standards that were brought in around 2004/5 that are supposed to lower the emissions from cars.

I don't know the complete inns and outs of it , but basically it increces the cars fuel consumption and can often be fitted in conjunction with a particulate filter which further reduces power. The manuf boosted the power to get round this and this has a negitive effect too.

crazy eh ? lol

Don't expect high 40s if you are doing 85mph.

At 75mph, 45mpg should be easily achievable.

I've had up to 50mpg on slightly slower runs.

Around town, getting up to 38mpg, by making sure that the box is continually in 5th, by tipping up (when in D) - the box doesn't always do it by itself - thanks to fuzzer for the tip ;)

If you drive around normally, you won't get more than 25mpg around town !

mmmm, I wonder if having it "re-mapped" (which I was considering anyway for a little more ooomph) will help with mpg at all ? (or make it worse due to my heavy right foot ^^ )

I regularly get 55mpg average out of my C220CDI on long motorway runs @ 70-75 mph I use cruise a lot and the range is always up in the high 650's. round town I am averaging 38 so maybe I got a good un. I am very pleased the car is brill apart from the odd snag which I understand from this forum is quite normal on a W203

I took the direct route from Berlin to Dusseldorf in an E220 CDI. I travelled at the highest possible speeds permitted and I go to MBENZNL and back with that same one tank of petrol.

Total trip was 700km and the tank was 80L. It was pretty dry when I got to the other end including the 3 hours I spent in a traffic jam.

So I think the C-Class should be able to do better given that the fuel figures are very close and the car is bigger and was driven harder.

your car sounds like an EU3 car or pre 2004

mmm, I'm due my first service in 3k miles, I guess I will ask them to take a look anyway... I'm obvioulsy only doing 85 when there is clear road, the rest of the time im restricted by the traffic and keeping safe distances so I would still expect better than I have been acheiving so far..

Still much better than my previous Audi which gave 23mpg ! (petrol, turbo ;) )

mpg

i owned a c220cdi 203 which my son now has and on the run it returns up to 61mpg in town driving anything from 38/41mpg which i think for the weight of the car is very good i am now driving a c200cdi blue effiency 204 model and the mpg is terrible on the run according to the computor the most i have got is 43mpg and town driving 26/30mpg but i have been running tank to tank and it varies between 24/28mpg a massive difference anyone else the same?

Old thread alert.

Blue efficiency is anything less. Be safe in the sound its emitting less particulates but as a consequence of emissions reg, its using more fuel. On a gentle 70mph on a motorway, Id want 50mpg. I get the same as you from a larger engined, heavier car

I get 63 mpg with C 200 CDI manual transimission pre-facelift. Average speed about 65mph. Can the computer be malfunctioned or it is the real mpg?

Driving up to 55mph it goes up to 71mpg.

Seems strange?

This is my trip last Sunday from Edinburgh to Sunbury.

W203 Estate C200 CDI pre facelift.

This trip was into a headwind, the trip up was with a tailwind and averaged 67.2 mpg door to door.

Ive a BE C200CDI auto and have averaged 53 mpg over 18000 miles last year. Mainly commuting to work 35 miles each way, 70% motorway at 70.
I find the journey mpg economy not so good for the first 15 miles or so until it warms up then it improves rapidly. Most I have seen on the computer on a journey home on a hot day is 70 ish, but the OBD seems more optimistic at the upper range.
