hello everyone

i have some smoke coming out the gap between the air filter box and the engine plus patches of oil under the car towards driver side
i think it might be the seals on turbo pipes under the air filter box

any idea how to get the air filter box off?

and tools needed?

some diagrams or pictures would be very helpful

also the power steering fluid needs topping up ... what type of fluid do you recommend ?

thanks

Power steering fluid

Hi don't know about the turbo pipes . But someone in the
know will help. But the power steering fluid I know u carnt
mix fluids. I bought power steering fluid from main dealer
£17 per ltr & they don't do 1/2 ltr . So now got nearly a full
ltr of fluid left what a waste

did you top it up or change all the fluid?
take it u topped it up?

does steering fluid need to be changed? what intervals ?

thanks

Fluid just needs to be topped up, no need to change it.
DO NOT OVERFILL. Use the correct mark on the dipstick HOT (after car has been driven) or COLD (prior to car being driven).
Correct fluid is MB 345.0 hydraulic fluid A 001 989 2403

Did you manage to remove the air filter box?
If not please advise the first 3 digits of your engine number. This can be found on your V5C registration document. There are two different types of air filters used on your model and the 3 digits will be the engine type.

hello again Mike

think my engine number is 646
it the cylindrical shape air filter that goes in the box

I've uploaded a picture of it .. click on link :

just curious about power steering fluid change intervals as i read on some forums that it needs changing every 60k miles
if so how many litres does my car take?

All info is taken from Haynes Workshop Manual and there is no mention at all of changing the fluid. Maybe one of the Indy's here will confirm this or advise otherwise.
Capacity is 1 litre (approx).

The smoke is probably oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold and hopefully you will be able to see where it's coming from with the filter out of the way.

great info Mike much appreciated ...

i will take the air box tomorrow if not raining and see where the leak is coming from
will give an update ...

thanks a lot

update ....

morning everyone ....
i have tried to get the air box out but got the the last bit in those pics mike posted then couldnt get the box removed , it says lift box up then forwards , well i did that but to no avail , did not want to apply more force in case i broke something as its a plastic box so might take it to a garage see if they can remove it for me

also there was some oil round the breather valve and oil cap .. are these prone to leak oil?
i've cleaned it anyway to see if the oil leak is from there

ive posted a pic here :

Hi,
I removed my airbox yesterday same problem! You lift it at the front as it has 2 rubbers that sit in a groove, then it pull hard towards you to free it from 2 rubber encased holes that hold the rear in place.
Underneath is a metal plate that is held in with 6 bolts you can remove this to see the turbo. My problem was the oil cap leaking on to the hot metal plate !
Rgds.

thanks lazyboy..
i managed to get the air box out that and the metal plate ... unplugged the plastic pipe the goes into the turbo there was some oil residue in the plastic pipe... is that normal?

ive cleaned everything and put back together will inspect again to see where the oil leak is coming from ..

hope its the oil cap like you said lazyboy
..thanks

A bit of oil in the pipe is nomal.
I wrapped some kitchen roll around the neck below oil the oil cap to check it if oil was leaking on to it!
