2000 C180 Classic (1998cc)
This is my first post in this forum, and my apologies if this is a re-post, I have tried searching and sifting through all the topics. The 2000 C180 Classic that I drive does not lock the fuel filler cap with the central locking. I recently had to replace the battery, and the "mechanic" who did it disconnected with no backup and caused all the usual probs. I seem to remember reading something about the fuel cap as well? I would appreciate any help.
Thanks
James

This might help

If its anything like the 190E or C180 ive had you can get to the mechanism by squeezing your hand between the boot lining and the bodywork to pull and push the locking pin. Try squirting the mechanism with a lubricant and check if that helps sometimes its just stiff.

Does it sounds as if the pin lock is trying to move upon lock/unlock of the car?

I had same problem with fuel flap pin BUT this was not down to changing the battery. The housing for the pin may need adjusting and going slightly out of alignment and is obstructing the metal pin from coming out. I adjusted the pin housing and all was ok afterwards...

I have removed the locking mechanism for the cap today, it doesn't move at all when the car is locked or unlocked. With a multimeter I have found that not only is there not a supply to the pins when locking, but also that both pins are connected together and to earth. Surely this cannot be right, short circuit somewhere?
