Hi All, Is there any way I can get the hanger on my exhaust fixed, My exhaust moves and bangs, when ever I turn quickly or go over humps, I've had several attemps to secure the exhaust, Kwik fit have done the same but with in weeks the new fixings have all broken again. The exhaust is fine but is not secure because the hanger have broken off.
Is this a common problem on a W203 c class 03 car.

Go to your local garage , doesn't have to be a merc indy , and get them to weld the hangers back on.

Job done.

Yep, a fairly common issue

The left and right exhaust pipes come down from the manifolds, under the engine and then come together side-by-side under the gearbox. Here they are secured to a bracket bolted to the underside of the body. These pipes each contain a catalytic converter, so replacement is expensive!

The securing mounts corrode and snap off from the pipes, allowing the whole exhaust to bounce up and down slightly, often squeaking against the break.

You can unbolt the bracket from the underbody, then get this welded back on to the exhaust pipes.

While you're having this done, also check the hanger just in front of the rear box. This is made from a hollow tube, and again corrodes away. Mine had almost disintegrated completely, so my mechanic friend had to fabricate a replacement and weld that in its place.

Common problem due to MB using tubular steel for the hangers.

Happened to me on my S500 - local shop made identical-sized hangers from threaded rod and welded that on. Not had a problem since.
