W203 Starter motor removal help required

Hi all, Ive got a W203, 2003 model 220cdi saloon, the torque converted needs replacing, last night i got it in the garage & started, BUT........ Ive got to the starter motor, ans i cant even see the top bolt, i think i can feel it, but it does not appear to be a hex head, and just by touch I cannot identify what spanner/allen key etc i need. To make it worse, someone in the past has removed the bottom bolt & not put it back in.....
All help appreciated, I'm stuck.....

It should be a torx bolt.

Ooh, yes, ive just removed it, its removed from the gearbox side, not the engine side...dooh. I had to drop the box to gain access. Onto step 8 in the Haynes.....

Most bolts on cars are now torx maybe not an advance in engineering when dealing with high spec but hey ho keeps bolt makers in employment (ask engineer how many torx bolts he drills out)
